That's good to know - I'll probably just stick with the on-the-roof, behind-the-whip location for my Sirius antenna (assuming my Prius gets in someday...).

I've got my sirius antena under the shark fin, in front of the factory antena base.
i've had it up and running for a couple weeks and haven't had an unexpected drop out yet.
pulling the roof down wasn't as big of deal as I thought it'd be. however I still have not been able to get the rear roof light seated as well as I'd like.
removing the factory antena base, routing the wire and reseating the base was no big deal, especially since I knew there'd be an add'l water seal with the shark fin.

Thanks Tom. I can't seem to find any photos that show how much room is under the sharkfin. How tight is it under there?

After reading 18 pages or so I am still trying to decide do I get the dealer to do the upgrade not sure how much yet or upgrade myself. I have a sirius sportster in one other cac and can move it to house, boom box so having a system moreintegrated with the JBL stereo in the prius seems better overall. How much can I look to spend and what is the best way to integrate?

A note on the loose fitting TOY-SC1 plug. This is the second TOY-SC1 I have installed - a few months back in my Solara Convertible (w/JBL NAV) and recently in my 2008 Prius (Pkg 2). In both cases, the plug has caused me several hours of agravation; just doesn't want to "click" in and keeps falling out. With the Prius, I found that the pushing down on the locking tab would prevent the plug from easily pulling out, but as soon as you moved/bumped the plug ever so slightly side-to-side (yes, the plug would move that way just by moving the cable) the connection was lost. Anyway, my final solution was to put a small piece of electrical tape (slightly smaller than the plug itslef) on the top and two sides of the plug. This seems to give the plug the necessary size/snugness to prevent any movement and seems to allow that locking tab to do its job.

As for placement of the TOY-SC1 and SCC1, I placed them in the space to the right of the glove box behind the vent trim. I used the supplied mounting plates to connect the two modules and then used a single zip tie to secure it to a metal bracket that was up in there. Although it was fairly secure, I also used some foam to pad it where it looked like it might rattle against the glve box frame.

that's exactly what I did. going strong 4 months later. what a pain though!

I'll have to try that spot. Right now, mine are in the map slot in the glove compartment. It'd be nice to free that space up. However, I have had to unplug/plug from the unit that connects to the MFD to reboot it a few times, so I would need it accessible for that. I'll check out your spot.

You need the TOYSC1 as well.

The SCVDOC1 holds the sportster but it doesn't have the right interface to connect to the JBL stereo. The TOYSC1 performs all the necessary conversion between the JBL (in the SCVDOC1) and the Sportster.

The TOYSC1 is on backorder at Amazon but there are plenty of Amazon affiliate merchants at the link above with one or more in stock. Mine just arrived today, as a matter of fact.

If you don't mind opening the console to change stations you can run the antenna wire into the center console and make audio and power connections there and save the $$ for the TOYSC1 and SCVDOC1.

If you don't spend the money on the TOYSC1 and SCVDOC1 you can just use the aux audio jack in the console and operate the buttons on the front of the satellite radio. If you have the TOYSC1 and SCVDOC1 integrated you use the MFD and steering wheel controls. In fact the sat radio controls are disabled when the radio is integrated with the TOYSC1 and SCVDOC1.

Since I haven't done the full installation yet I just have the satellite radio in the console with the aux audio jack and I have to use the controls on the sat radio.

No, none of the special features of the satellite tuner work in this setup, including rewind.

I have the Toy-sc1 unit installed in my 2007 prius with navigation. It has been working fine for almost 8 mos, all of a sudden my AM/SAT button no longer toggles to SAT it only stays on AM, I checked all connections and everything seems connected. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks, Les

    it's happened to me before.
if unplugging the unit in/out doesn't work...pull the fuse on whichever unit has the fuse, and leave it out for a few minutes.
when you put it back in, you should be good to go.

Probably the plug has come loose on the back of the head unit. I have a plug-n-play satellite radio and if I unplug it the MFD switches to SAT but then there's a message that the radio isn't connected. So I'd say your problem is in the connection to the head unit.

Thanks for the help. Unplugging the fuse for a minute did the trick.

Thanks to all on this forum for the great instructions. I just installed a TOYSC1 and SCC1 ordered from TSS in my 2009 Package 6. The install was easy - about 30 minutes to install the units on the far right side under the air vent. As people have said, there is plenty of room. I didn't have too much trouble getting the plug into the factory radio and I pulled the tab and it seemed pretty secure.

I went ahead and installed the antenna in the spoiler. This took me a little longer, but went fine. The biggest challenge was snaking the larger antenna plug through the rubber "tube" that runs between the hatchback and the main body of the car. There isn't much room with the existing wiring.

So the satellite is working and I am happy but for the preset issue on the steering controls. Its a nice product other than that little programming glitch.

    :)
