Let's see if I can explain this one...

In my current 2007 model, the history of MPG for this trip is lost every time the car is powered off. If I drive to the dairy (and power off) and then to work, I cannot tell what the total MPG for the whole "trip" was. I can use the trip meter to get the distance; but nothing tells me the fuel usage.

I had a glimmer of hope that this would change when an earlier thread mentioned something that could, maybe, be construed by an overly eager mind as what I'm looking for...

What I want is the ability to push a button and have the car count forwards the distance driven and the fuel used (or average MPG, as I can figure one from the other). Even better would be more than one of these - just like my car currently has two trip meters.

Since the option packages down here are going to be 'different' to the .US market, to say the least, it might also be good to find out if this feature is standard or comes with a given package?

Now that the car has been seen and even driven by some of the luckier forumites, can anyone help me sate my curiosity? :)

I'm not 100% sure about this being true worldwide, although I bet it is: In the 2010 Prius you will have a trip screen that will keep MPG numbers, average MPH, and an odometer. There is a Trip A and a Trip B screen.

I talk a little more about it in my review of the 2010, under the Multi-Information Display section:

Ooh... distance to empty display as well? That would be neat. I keep trying to figure that myself (the guess-gauge is a bit more reliable this far south, no bladder), but I always give up and fill up on the last pip, preferably before it starts flashing. :)

So it looks like the 2010 does just what I want and is sounding better and better. Time to start talking to Toyota NZ and the Bank about getting one for myself :D

    Thanks Danny.

That was fixed with the Camry Hybrid. When Toyota switched to the 1 min intervals for the Consumption Screen, that's when they had the history on it. It will show in a different colour than the current bars. This is done every time you shut off the car so you only get the last trip's history.

With the 2010, they've gone one step further. Now you can choose when to end the "trip" by resetting the Trip Odometer. Now all the kms travelled before you resetted it will be saved in the Consumption Screen. This works well when you want to keep a running total and a trip-by-trip history. It'll remember up to the past 5 trips per trip odometer.

I wanted to keep A on my 2010 as a history of gas miles and mileage. My wife accidentally zeroed it. Is there anyway to restore it? Thanks

Gen3s typically have about 7 liters remaining when miles to empty reaches 0. Once you convince yourself that your car has those 7 liters, you can run it down to 0 miles to empty with confidence.

Nope, you could start using a website to track it, as a back up.

It isn't just self and spouse that accidentally clear the trip meters. Clumsy oil change technicians do it too.

Any numbers that you want to keep should be recorded periodically in a fuel log book. Now I update the log at the start of each shop visit too.

Thanks for the responses I will definitely start a log. I should have know that I needed to. I do remember the mileage and Miles per gallon.
