We are well into the holiday shopping season, and what does that mean? It means leaving your car in huge parking lots around people who only care about getting their packages into their car and getting the hell out of the BuyMore. And that means that your car will end up with dings and dents and you'll end up with an expensive repair bill.

Well, let's avoid all of that with Prius Body Side Moldings. Color-keyed and fairly easy to install, these are a must for anyone who parks in public places and a nice visual addition to any Prius.

Is there any interest in this? We need to have at least 50 people interested to make this Group Buy a reality.

People that don't already have these should get them. These have saved the side of my car from many door dings. Too bad I already have a set on mine.

I would, but probably would be after the holidays. I've spent a considerable chunk of change on mods lately and some other bad habits I have. Safer for me to pace myself before the wife gets cranky on me!

I would like to see a picture of the chrome ones though (the existing links do not work for me.)

Yesterday, we saw a Super white Prius with BLACK side moldings! It looked really, really neat.

If I didn't have the spots on the Prius, I'd probably go with the dark gray, however, to match the decals. I think I have a bit of a door ding on mine already... I've not investigated too closely, as I don't want to know... sigh.

    Anyway, not this year...

How difficult are these to install. Do you just measure a certain vertical distance down the door and place them so they're level? Are they just held on with an adhesive strip? Are they removable? Can the paint on the moldings actually chip off or is the color all the way through the plastic?

I just put on a set a few days ago.
It isn't easy and it isn't hard. If you want it nicely done, it takes a bit of careful setup and time. The directions tells you a distance up from the door bottom since that seems to be straight on both doors and place tape. First, I tried the blue tape so it won't stick but I waxed my car not long ago and it would not stick so I use regular masking tape and it worked.
You have to be careful that the tape is straight, measuring height frequently. When both doors are taped, sight down to make sure both doors are alighend and straight, not bowing or diping:D

I also use another tape below it, the width of the molding, I believe it is 1 1/4" since you need to use their alcohol pad to clean the surface then later apply some sort of glue. This way, you will clean the needed area and glue the needed area, no guessing involved.

The adhesive tape on the molding is slightly narrower than the molding, perhaps a 1/16" so if the tape is slightly off, not a problem. Before you clean, trial fit the molding. Also, mark the distance you need to be from the door opening in the center.

The protective backing on that adhesive tape on the molding comes in 2 pieces on the longer molding, taped together. Unfortunately that tape will not pull the protective tape off when you start pulling from the center door edges out. So, instead of stopping in the middle of the work trying to pull the short segemnt of protective tape off, pull up on it on the tapered end so it will be east to do when you get to it.

If you are not in a hurry, it should not be a problem attaching it.

I definitely want to get the moldings. I just took my car in today for its 30,000 service. I got the car on January 2 and it's my first service. The car is still over there, it's ready, i'm waiting for their shuttle (!) to come pick me up at home to go get the car. i asked about having moldings installed today. It's hard for me to have time to take the car in and i wanted it done right away. But they didn't have them in stock, and not only that, the moldings alone were more than $200, labor was over $100. The total installed was $334. ... i don't think so.

So i'm going to order them from PriusChat and have a body shop put them on. i just hope the car doesn't get dinged before i can do that.

I just have one hesitation. I saw this photo in the Newbie/photos thread on PriusChat. These appear to be another kind of moldings. What is most interesting to me is the matching corner moldings. The member is in Italy I believe. Are there any moldings in the US with corner bumper protection?

    Here's the photo:

is it one purchase per side...or does the one purchase take care of both sides of the car?

Seems like a silly question, but in the checkout in mentions if you're buying a second one, just go through the checkout process twice. Just want to make sure.

I just now went and bought some at the PriusChat store. They're only $9 more than the group buy price, and still free shipping. Can't wait to get them on. I'm scared to try to put them on myself. Maybe i will. i'll read up on the advice given on this thread. Anyway, the sooner the better.

I just ordered the black side moulding @Prius chat for 119.00. I know noticed I can get them cheaper here and you offer it in chrome, which I would prefer. How and where do I order these andf cancel my previous order?

EDIT: i think they are still available, the $110 for the regular ones and $140 for chrome. I tried clicking on the link in the original post and it seems to all be there.

On the product description page, it says "4 pc set" -- PriusChat Shop : Toyota Prius Body Side Moldings - $122.00$119.00

That thing about "if you're purchasing a second one..." does seem odd. It would seem to go with out saying, unless you can select a quantity of 2.
