A plug-in charger for the stock battery would work for me too - up to say $200 Canadian. I live in a hilly area. I get out of my garage and the ICE comes on in about 7 seconds and I use 8,000 l/100 km (just a joke). I have a little hill to climb then long downhill to the store or to the Hwy. Each is about 2 km from my home. At the point when the ICE would come on - it would not only warn the pollution thingies but it would also 'seriously' drive the car - and re-charge the battery.

The bottom line is that the usefulness of a charger depends on where you live and where you typically drive - it is called "user profile" in marketing.

I figure, because of the hills I get 4.9 to 5.3 (winter) l/100km without any 'hyper-mileing'. If you live on 'flat lands' you will get better mileage (kilometrage?)
