today while driving around town suddenly the MFD reset while Odometer did not. MFD is showing 20 miles whereas Odometer shows 90 miles.

    Any ideas?

    I have a 2008 Prius.

Odometer should never change, trips should, but not sure why your MFD reset, or what you mean by reset.

The mfd usually resets after you put gas in the tank... Perhaps you went up and down a large hill that tricked the gas tank into sending a "someone filled me with > 3 gallons" message.

My driving route is pretty much fixed and I have never seen that happen before. On every fill up I manually press the reset on the mfd to reset the "miles" count to 0. The weird part [or what I think is weird] is that today suddenly not only mfd miles went down to 0, the lifetime mileage also was reset to 0.

Yes, odometer is showing the correct reading. Today suddenly not only mfd miles went down to 0 but lifetime mileage also was reset to 0 and that too without touching anything on the mfd.

Did you clean the MFD while driving?

When did you notice this? Did you see it adjust to 0 while you were driving? Had you made any changes to climate control or radio in the meantime? Do you have the NAV system?

No I don't have a NAV system and I did not make changes to the climate control or radio.

Yes, it dropped to zero while I was driving

OK. That rules out a number of things. Had you recently re-fueled?

yes refueled on Friday.. pressed reset on MFD which changed both MFD and Odometer b to zero. Lifetime mileage did not change and was still at 48. This automagic thingy happened on Sunday.

:DWell then that solves it, it was the Prius god that changed it, since it was Sunday.

I had a somewhat similar problem. The MFD reset wiping out both trips and reset to zero not once but twice. One I finally got the wife to own up to (she rarely drives the Prius but had to take her Corolla in for service) and the other happened overnight...had about 90 miles on a tank and it was at zero when I started the short trip to the store. Hadn't filled up in about 3 days (I'm retired and on disability and can go a week without driving anywhere). Didn't hit the reset button nor anything else on the MFD. Hmmmm...up to that point I was averaging about 46.5 (the wind blows a lot in Oklahoma...lol) with over 17K on it.

Should I take it in or just monitor the system to see if it happens again?

Pressing the Reset "Button" on the MFD resets the 'Average MPG' and 'miles' values on the 'Consumption' screen, it does NOT reset either Odometer A or Odometer B. There is no 'Lifetime Mileage' display, the 'Average mpg' displayed on the Consumption screen shows the mpg only for the number of miles shown there.

The 'Trip A' & 'Trip B' odometers are both reset by pressing & holding the "ODO / TRIP" button beneath the MFD. If the button is pressed and held while Trip A is showing, Trip A will be reset, if the button is held while Trip B is showing, Trip B will be reset. If the button is pressed & quickly released, the ODO display cycles Trip A > Trip B > ODO.

Both my '08 (with NAV) and my wife's '08 (no NAV) work the same way.
