hey all, i'm signed up for the nations triathlon in september. it's an olympic-distance race (1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run). i know there was talk a while ago of a priuschat cycling "team", are there any triathletes out there in the priuschat world? its pretty lonely training alone and it'd be great to find someone to compare notes/ stay motivated with.

You have to swim, bike, and run on the SAME DAY?!

I could see if the event was spread out over a few months ....

I'd love to, I just don't have the time. If I did, I'd probably concentrate on the cycling anyway.

Are you talking swim, bike, run triathlons or float, coast, crawl. I do the latter.

My technique is to beat a hole in the water just in front of me, then slide into the void.....rest and repeat.

nice. so far i've been trying the if you can't swim forward fast enough try to create the void by inhaling some water and thrashing about a bit. so far its going pretty well.

The closest I have come to a triathalon was manning and aid station for the Western States century run. 100 miles in 24 hours. Someone did it in ~15 hours.

The first bike tour I did was about 300 miles. After days of agony climbing mountain passes with too much stuff and faulty equipment, some kind soul told me it had been done in 14 hours. Sadly, the same person who'd done that was later hit from behind by a car in Texas and now lives in a wheelchair.

I'd be more than pleased to provide positive encouragement ("You call *that* running?" "Hurry up!" etc) while sitting in a comfy lawn chair with a cooler full of ice and barley pop

That's the way life seems to work: the rednecks and bubbas are the ones who don't have to lift a finger, and rarely does anything bad happen to them

    I'd be in that,

but I live too far away, damn!

Actually I wouldn't be in that, not unless it's a 1.5k cycle, 10 metres swim and 40 metre run. I could do that, but I would still lose.

Last year I did 3 sprint triathlons, though I wouldn't consider myself a triathlete. My friend came in fifth in last year's L.A. sprint triathlon, and finished first in his age group(26-35). I would consider him a triathlete. I finished in the middle of the pack out of 575, I would consider myself one who combines recreational swims, bikes, and runs.
