I just purchased a 2009 Prius Touring #5. I love my car, but I do wish Toyota could get Ipod integration figured out. I am more then disappointed in my ipod adapter that was installed by the dealer. It is the soundgate toypd2, which is the same as the Vais SLI1 I believe. The sales manager said it would display text and I got them to throw it in with my sale.

I have now had my car there twice, once for installation, and a second time to figure out why it is not working. Well I picked it up and they said sorry it is not compatible with your radio b/c there is no text button. (My top of the line radio!)

So here is what I can do using this so called ipod adapter. Turn up the volume and change songs using the track up/down button. The only way to change playlists is to wait patiently for the last song on your first playlist to finish and it will go to the next playlist. The aux-in cable is MUCH more useful.

Once again I LOVE LOVE LOVE my prius, but come on toyota surely the 2010 has simple ipod integration!!

I know I am not the first person to have these problems or start a thread, but I feel better getting this off my chest! Any advice is always welcomed!

I don't think you had a Vais then. I have an SLI1 and it does display text on the MFD. I have it set up in MP3-CD mode and it displays playlists in the "folder" menu. I can select a playlist there, then in files mode I can select songs. None of this works while the car is moving.

To change playlists, I hold the track up/down button for about 2 sec and it beeps, then changes the playlist for me. Buy one direct from Vais, the SLI2 has some nice options in the latest software. I'm seriously considering the speed-sensor disable hack so I can have the passenger change iPod stuff using the touchscreen while driving. The touchscreen interface is really nice.

Hooray!!! Thanks to the great folks at Vais technology, and 3 trips to the toyota service department my adapter finally works!!! It works great. The service department just did not know how to install it, I brought the vais tech support number to them and they were able to get it figured out! Now I can see the playlists, artists, song name all displayed on the screen! Now I really really love my new prius!
