    Hey everybody,

I just purchased my 2002 Toyota Prius and just love it!! :D

I have noticed that the navigation dvd when pressing the dvd info button reads DVD data 2001 ver.1

I happen to have a new dvd that looks exactly like the one that came with the car with the exception that it shows Data ver.03.1.

I want to know if I can insert the newer dvd and use it with my system. I'd like to know first before inserting it. Don't want to ruin anything. There is a warning on the dvd for the user of data 2000 ver.1 stating that it will update the system software. Do I need to be concerned about that?

Anyway, any feedback and help on this matter would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Michael

    Welcome to Prius ownership! :)

I loved my 2002, even if it was a funky color. (Couldn't be picky back then.)

On the DVD: is the newer disc meant to be used in a 2002/2003, or was it obtained from a newer Prius? I don't recall if the older navigation system can use discs designed for the newer system; not sure if anyone has tried. (Toyota keeps seperate part numbers for the older and newer system discs.)

Regardless, there is probably no harm in trying it out. I tried using a Cadillac navigation disc (also made by Denso) in my 2002, and it refused to load it. Once the correct disc was replaced, everything happily returned to normal.

To be on the safe side, you can always call your local Toyota service center and ask. They should be happy to help.

    Good luck!

The dvd I got was from a Lexus who also uses the Denson system. The Disk was tested in a 2004 GX470. I guess I can just insert it and see what happens. I just would hate to think that it might mess up the whole system.

I think you're safe. Let us know if it works - that disc is intended for a second-gen system.

I sure hope it works. Right now, the crazy system has me driving all over town just to get to work and home instead of a straight line. My father has a newer Prius and the navigation system works just fine.

I also should get my new 6 disk changer from a toyota dealer in Washing state on Wednesday. I can't wait!!!

Thank to all who responded and I hope this is found by other searchers looking for similar info. :)

I tried it, it doesn't work.

The Toyota part numbers printed on the disks compatible with the Classic are 86271-3303x. The 2G disks are 86271-3304x.
