Hello all, I've been thinking of a larger-wheel, stickier-tire combo for quite a while, but the desire to keep it looking somewhat clean and to keep unsprung weight somewhat low (not to mention the utter lack of cash ) have left me indecisive. But no more...

Behold! The 2010 Prius V is equipped with 17" wheels, which I understand to be at least reasonably aerodynamic and lightweight--they are OEM Prius wheels, after all. I'm planning to buy a set of '10 Prius rims through my Toyota dealership and to stick some HP tires on them. It should be a relatively simple process, but I'm wondering how much I should expect the rims to set me back. Have any of you purchased, say, Touring rims or 17" TRD Scion wheels or similar and have an idea what the cost might be? Thanks!

The 15" OEM rims on the 2007 prius costs appox 400$ each. I'd probably guess 500$ for 17" rims.

Each?! When I can get Königs for $135 apiece? Wow. I think I'm gonna have to rethink this idea.

It's the tires you need to worry about.... 17's are much more expensive than the 15"s. :)

Centerline makes some nice lightweight 17s. You might look into those if you like billet style wheels.

Here is mine with the Centerlines. All in all I think I paid just over a grand for everything? I can't remember exactly. My MPG dropped too. :(

I did some research on tirerack.com--it seems like prices on 17s have come down quite a lot recently! And since tires are an every-couple-years expense I don't mind paying slightly more for better.

Looks good! :) I'm thinking alloys instead of chrome, though, as I want it to look as stock as possible--that's why I wanted the '10 alloys. Are they seriously $400+?!

Mine are actually polished aluminum. :)

I don't think anyone knows what the 17s will go for yet. From the dealer they will likely be quite expensive. When Bob64 quoted those prices above I assume he was thinking of "take off" pricing. i.e. someone selling their stock wheels on eBay or on this forum. The dealer will likely charge MUCH more just like they do with the Scion tC take-off wheels. I doubt anyone will be selling the 17" Prius stock wheels in the near future. I could be wrong though. :)

what do you think is different with the 2010 prius oem 17" wheels with other 17" wheels? i mean they can't be that light weight that even if put on the 2nd gen that we wouldn't get a mpg hit. i would like to upgrade to 17" wheels. but, it doesn't seem possible to without a mpg hit. i have been searching and i came up with nothing.

    I agree :(

I'm sure the 2010 takes a MPG hit as well.
