Sorry, my post was misleading, I assumed they quoted you the price minus the rebate already, but remember to add the $750 freight, not subtract it as you said 'does not include freight, proc, tax, tag'.

A package 5 adds $1,962 to the $21,758 base price. $750 is the standard freight, and you've got $24,470.

Subtract $1000 for the rebate and you're at $23,470, before tax and title. I'd expect you still to be quoted a couple hundred over this right now.

Add your local sales tax, add $100 or $200 maximum for vehicle registration and transfer of title (you can see the prices right on your DMV website, it's the same price for a dealer as you buying a used car, but the dealers often charge a bit more for their internal processing)

Any quote doesn't really matter until you hear the freight, processing etc. What if your processing was $3200? Not such a deal then.

Ask your dealer what the out the door price with everything included is, until then you don't really know what you are going to pay.

I'd say you've got a heck of a deal (or you don't pay sales tax) if you are really out the door under $24,000 on a 5. Do let us know!

WOW!! i was still quoted @ $24,549 for a 09 w/ pack #2 and that's not including all the fees/taxes/license, but this is the first quote i got back so far..

keeping my fingers crossed for a better deal.. =)

update: i just got my 2nd quote and they offered about $27K OTD for a pck #2 2009

is it me or do these prices seem kinda high?

any tips/advice to realistically bargain the price down to maybe $21-23K OTD for a new 2009 prius pck#2?

    thanks in advance :)

You might check autotrader, there are a number of socal dealers with new listings starting at $22.9k, which you might be able to beat them down on a bit from there. I would think you should at least get the $500 factory cash or special financing. At least that gives you can idea which dealers are trying a little harder to sell Priuses. I'd try some of the desert or Phoenix dealers too, they are often a little more aggressive as they're trying to pull business away from the LA/OC dealers. Right off the bat I see Phoenix market has up to $2k factory cash or 0%, vs. $500 or 4.9% for OC. If nothing else a good quote on email from a Phoenix dealer gives you something to beat your local dealer down with.

You might also consider low mileage certified pre-owned. Back in Dec/Jan we bought an '08 pkg 4 w/11k miles for $20.8k+, plus got over BB for our trade and got them to throw in tinting. You also get the extra warranty and roadside assistance with a CPO.

On the other hand, now that we know the base gen 2 2010's are going to list for ~$20k, and gen 3's will start at $22k ($21k eventually), you'll have to weigh that too. Most likely you'll have to wait a while to buy either of these cars at that price though. Even before the pricing came out we decided we didn't want to wait and bought our second Prius. The 2010 pricing is a lot better than I expected, but I'm still happy with our decision.

hey rob, thanks for all this info.. i will definitely try a dealer out in az, but i might just go with the 2010 prius II for $22K since all i really wanted was the smart key system.. I would like the backup camera too, but i think comes with the navi pack which i don't/can't afford to get.. LOL

i'll keep looking and keep my fingers crossed.. =)

I purchased my Touring Package #6 almost two weeks ago for $27,923 out the door (including 8% tax, license, delivery, etc), complete with wheel locks, carpeted mats, cargo net and first aid kit. It was $25,614, including the $1000 rebate, before all the lovely NYS charges & taxes.

I didn't think that was too bad.

I just put down a deposit on a 2010 today (after much research!). The 2009 prices weren't going down as fast as I thought they would. But once I made up my mind for a 2010, the dealer was quoting $23500 for the 2009 #5. Apparently, there are A LOT of #5s in No. California (Walnut Creek, Marin, San Francisco, Sunnyvale all have many!). Good luck!

that's a really good deal. Try Toyota of Poway. I leased a Prius pkg. 6 there a few weeks ago for 36mo. 3,000 down at 268/mo. 15k/yr.

I just contacted Poway and they couldn't come close to $23.9k for a Pkg 6...

Update, I just got a Pkg 5 quote from the same AZ dealer for $23,049. I will most likely go for that soon if no one else can match. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion! I will check out nor cal before purchasing. Also, I noticed Nor Cal's incentive on Prius is $1000 Cash Back or 3.9% APR vs. So Cal $500 Cash Back or 4.9% APR... Man So Cal is really getting screwed!

Hi guys, I'm new. I just got a quote for $24k out the door for package #5. Is this good deal?

The dealer email quote does not has any destination fee. Can he add that or other junk fee later? The dealer is about 3 hrs away, I'm not sure is it worth the drive?

    Any suggestion?

    Thanks.

I would e-mail at least 3 local dealers and tell them the price you get from this dealer and let them compete for your business. Good luck!

In Tampa, FL I purchased a 2009 Package 2 Prius 2 weeks ago for $22,025. I did have the 600 dealer fee plus 7% tax and title fee to make it approx $24,466 OTD.
I also got them to go up to a total amount I was happy with on the trade. They are hot to sell the 2009 models knowing the 2010 is on the way. My dealer had about 12 on lot ot choose from, every color and option choice was available in the local area. I was told if I wanted another combo I didn't see they could have it in a day. It paid to be patient and wait until they NEEDED to unload them unlike the past waiting lists.
