    Harsh to compare a prius with 140k miles to a new one. Test drive a used prius at a local dealership with similar miles and age to the 140k mile one.

    I've had my '07 Touring Edition for 22 Months. I'm 53 and it was my first imported car. Just passed 128,000 miles on it and all I've changed are the Tires (on my 4th set, only disappointment), filters, and the oil. Incredible vehicle. When I think of how much I spent on repairs to get my many American cars over 100K miles, it explains some of Detroit's plight. No reason Detroit can't make cars this reliable. Just not a priority for them. We'll all be watching how they do now. I'm pulling for them to re-emerge, but I'll never settle again for mediocre reliability and durability. If Detroit can't make a better, safer, more reliable car than a Prius - and soon - then what value are they adding to American quality of life? Not sure we need them!

    2004 Prius, 109,000 as of yesterday. Loving carpool stickers, always use them here in southern california. My dash lit up like a christmas tree a few months back around 105xxx and had to replace water pump, out $400..ehh. other than that, fantastic mileage and everything else is perfect.

    Got rid of my lifted jeep wrangler for this..I regret it on the rainy days where I could be out having fun off roading BUT 48 MPG is much much much better than 12. Enough said! If i could go back to the day I sold my jeep, I still would have sold it and purchased this. We liked it so much, even my mom of course had to go out and buy one for herself.

    I love this car, my favorites: holds a surfboard or two, not to mention I can sleep in it (have done many times):madgrin: just fold down the seats, push the two front ones forward, and throw my twin air mattress in it, fit 8 friends in it while driving (not too comfortable);) and adventures anywhere from SD to SanFran or here to vegas that cause me to drive 20K per year! Thought it wouldn't be the coolest car to have at 17, but this thing is awesome. my friends were skeptical at first, but once they went for a ride they can't get enough, which means we take my car EVERYWHERE :suspicious:. HAPPY MOTORING!

    2001 Prius, 113,000K miles on the clock

    So far, it has chewed through 3 starter batteries, and 3 sets of tires. Two sets of brake pads, rotors machined once, and just recently replaced in total. Annoying, but no biggie.

    The biggies:
    --Entire CVT failed and had to be replaced at about 75K miles.
    --HV ECU failed and had to be replaced two years ago (80K miles); has just failed again (parts warranty of only one year, naturally)
    --Oil leak requiring resealing of front entire cover, replacement of crank seal, and replacement of valve cover gasket (parts alone about $500)
    And within the last two months:
    --Replacement of entire exhaust system which in the Gen 1 was apparently designed in such as a way as not to withstand harsh winters (a problem that was apparently cured in Gen 2)
    --Currently, it is sitting on dealer's lot, with a dead hybrid batter system (which is what I guess people here are calling the "traction battery). Awaiting Toyota's response to a claim on this. Today is deadline; they haven't even given me a call after I faxed them four days ago.

    So sand started leaking out of the seams at around 75-80K miles, and the seams completely ripped and sand started pouring about at about 110K miles.

    150,000 - No breakdowns, running like a champ.

    On 3rd set of tires - OEMs + 2 sets of Hydroedges.
    original brakes are doing well.
    MPGs keep inching upward.

    I hit 101,006 this morning and still going strong!
    I bought my 05 Prius in July 07 with 62k.
    Only money put in so far is oil changes, and I had my brakes checked, but they are great they say.

    I need an alignment, but I'm going to wait til I put on new tires (my current ones have good tread left and I can probably get another 5-10k on them). I was rear ended once, but the damage wasn't bad - only on the bumper, so I never got it fixed.

    I la-la-la love my Prius! I average 52 MPG always better in the summertime. Most of my driving is on the highways, or stop go traffic. I've been happy with my neighborhood Toyota Dealer and my car. I'm glad I purchased when I did!

    Happy to see there are people that have long lifes' to their Prius! I'm optimistic this car will last me a VERY long time!

    I have 144,000 miles on a 2002 prius.

    The only problem we have had is the main computer failure
    in December 2002 . My wife parked the car in a park n ride lot at
    7 am, temp was 30 below, she returned at 4pm the temp was 12
    below. (we live in Minnesota)

    She started the car and within 2 min's the triangle of death appeared
    then went off and then the turtle came on. She called Toyota city.
    the told here to drive the car slowly back to Toyota city( about 1 mile).

    Main computer shot, had to order from Japan, dealer gave me
    a new Camry to drive, car returned 1 week later, haven't had a problem since.

    ps New brake pads at 138,000, Rotors looking good per Dealer.

    pss one set of re92's three sets of Dunlop sp10's switched to goodyear comfort treads, size 195 mileage the same.

    My 2004 just reached 100,000 miles. :) It is a keeper and I hope to continue using it daily for years to come.

    It's on its third set of tires (two Integrity, one Goodyear Viva2). MFD behaving erratically since 56,000 miles (no plans to fix it). Front pads changed at 86,000. Inverter water pump changed at 92,000 miles ($258). Left front ball bearing assembly replaced at 98,000 miles $358). 12V battery replaced at 60,000 miles ($155).

    Not bad, not bad. :)

    2004 109,000 purchased a year ago with 96,000 this one was rough when I got it, Had to repo it by flat bed. New 12 volt batt, waterpump, steering rack, headlight leveling sensor, tires, rear axle. Wire in the harness needed spliced. Come to find out this one also had a fight with a pay phone....the prius won!!

    105,000 on our 2005 Prius which we have had since October of 2004. No problems at all. Just replaced the starting battery this past winter. Purchased an extended warranty but never had a single claim.

    137,000 06' 100k in 14 months! avg mpg 46. Replaced one wheel bearing. Lost one smart key,350ish to replace\reprogram. Replaced some bulbs,non hid are cheap.Hit 3 deer, the last one broke the mounts on the head light assembly. I got a new one on e bay for about 110 dollars, pulled the bumper skin to install,20 minute fix.A couple sets of tires, an alignment. No problems in the snow with studded tires. Lots of problems with crappy tires the winter before! 0-w30 every 8-10 k, using a quart about every 4k. Exact fit seat covers, washed 5x. I wish I had rubber floor mats. STOKED!!! I want another 06' Non HID lights. This forum is a great resource, Thank you! Peace,Mick

    100K about a week ago on my 2005 top package driven off the lot about Jan 2005. Factory recommended (as opposed to dealer recommended) maintenance every 5K miles at the dealer. My daily commute is about 30 miles of mixed driving with generally more highway miles on the weekends and numerous longer road trips on vacation and such. The commute was about 50% longer with more highway for the first couple of years of the car's life with more additional driving for volunteer services and such.

    A couple of trips to the body shop but other than that the only repairs beyond routine maintenance was for a water pump and front engine seal covered by the extended warranty at about 85K. My mpg is somewhat lower than when new but it's hard to tell what is due to different gas formulation (more ethanol), different brand of tires, and/or a different driving mix with fewer daily highway miles.

    One minor irritation is an indicator light for "automatic headlamp leveling" or something similar that comes on occasionally then goes off after a while. The first time I took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong so I stopped worrying about it.

    Bought mine used back in early 2005 with 25,000mi. One of the first 04's (without the rear wiper), very rare. Coming up on 145,000mi and counting. Used for work travel and everything else. Very reliable for the most part. Since owning had to go back to dealer for a hybrid battery wiring harness and aux battery replacement. Bought custom wheels online and had to remove when replacing front brakes (wheel offset would not clear floating calipers) a bit of a cluster ph__k but luckily I kept the oem wheels. Oh yea,almost 4got, intermittent MFD (I suspect the Dice iPod dealy was the culprit)

    Well, I finally got there a week ago yesterday. While driving from my son's in Centennial, CO to my oldest daughter's in Columbia, MO somewhere near Limon, CO I reached 100,000 miles. I'm now at 101 k miles.

    With the exception of the fact that I replaced my HV battery pack myself I've had no problems with the original equipment. I'll say more about that where I give the link to my history of my PHEV conversion. Normal 5000 mile oil changes and recommended other services.

    2005 125,000 last 30,000 is about 1/2 rural mail route. couple of HID and regular bulbs. repairs (not replacement) of the headlight height sensor. A off and on clicking on the LH side that may become a wheel bearing, A tinny scraping sound out of the right front at full left lock steering. Looks like I will be lucky to get 35,000 out of rear brake pads now. Rear brakes can be VERY touchy, grabby,grindy when cold. First set of front pads went on at 118,000 (just in time) Oversize snows on aftermarket alloys in the winter. Fair number of plug patches in the junktegrities, none in the blizzaks yet. 25 to 32 MPG on the route mid 40's otherwise in mixed driving. Original shocks seem to be holding up so far.
    Only had to shovel it out of drifts a couple of times never towed (yet).
    The coolant pump squealed on shut down when I bought it but hasn't done that for 15,000 miles now. Very happy so far.

    2005 Prius, 125000 miles driven in Los Angeles: Bad rear strut after 110k. Also seems to easily go out of alignment; lucky I have lifetime alignment service. Recently replaced water pump (leaking). Otherwise, everything has been fine. However, I've noticed that mileage has decreased lately as the car approaches the 150k battery warranty; closer to 40mpg instead of 45mpg it used to average.

    I crossed over 100,000 miles 4 days after the 4th of July. The car has been very reliable. I have done only the normal maintenance. This includes changing engine oil and filter. I started using Mobil1 since my first change at every 5k miles until 60k miles warranty. I started 7.5k miles oil change with no detectable oil consumption at every change.

    Transaxle oil changed at 65k miles just to be safe. Brake fluid is still clear. Front brake pads are still at around 75%. I expect them to last until 400k miles. Replaced brake actuator for free to stop the barking noise with the special service campaign.

    I replaced the button battery in the remote as I noticed the range was getting closer. The 12V battery is still going strong. HV battery is also still in very good shape, getting 54 MPG with 15" wheels and Nokian i3. 49 MPG with 17" Kyowa and Nexen. I wrote up how to take care of the HV battery to prolong it's life.

    I spent more money modding the car than the cost of maintenance. I will be replacing the inverter coolant and spark plug replacement is coming up soon. I also plan on replacing the struts, coil springs and shock absorbers as the ride is getting a little rougher and bouncier going over the bumps.

    I am extremely satisfied with ease of DIY maintenance, very low operating cost, and trouble-free reliable design. I can't think of any other car I want to own! Well, except the 2010 Prius.

    thanks for the info. i know that many folks have switched to hydroedge. did you take a temporary ding or permanent hit on your mileage?? i drive my gen 3 to work but also just enjoy the freedom and choice of driving for pleasure. also ride my harley for the pure joy and thrill of being alive :rockon:

    Hey I just hit 170,000 km, that's 106k miles. (160,000km ~ 100,000 miles)

    I have no issues to report. A small crack in the front bumper below the grill. Some paint chipping on the bumper. A couple of small (less than 1/16") rust spots where paint was chipped.

    Batteries are fine. Bearings are fine. The brakes are bit noisy, but the dealership said they were fine. Tires needed changing about 50,000km ago. The wipers need to be changed again.

    Fuel efficiency is about 4.8 L/100km (49MPG), during the summer using the A/C. About 500km is highway, about 300km is city.

    I hypermiled on a local small highway for about 150km and got 4.0 L/100km 58.8 MPG... Though, considering even on the small highways, I managed to annoy a few people, I am definitely not doing that again. (I save $1.05 in that trip.)

    No other issues, except the car's interior needs to be cleaned out... I put a lot of stuff in it...
