I live in AZ and the dealers are charging all new prius 2010 at MSRP with no mark up, plus window tint ($432). I rather not pay for the window tint as I have a friend who can do it for 1/4 the price. Anyone else finding they are being forced certain "standards"?

This should be a buyer's market. Either tell them you will walk away if they tint for you or bring them estimates from local installers/your friend for a fair price and tell them you'll pay that. Unless people stand up to this sort of coercion it will continue.

The best tint on the market for warranty is the 3m and it is about $260.00

same thing when I went to buy prius. They had desert package tacked on for 1100 more, basically it was window tint and door side moldings, and their "magic paint sealant" I told them no to that, they said they sold all them with that, and this was true. I went to another dealer that day and found a prius that was a better deal with the package I wanted and no bs added on. I had the windows tinted elsewhere for $210.

My order is with Avondale Toyota. I bought at MSRP with only add-ons being Rear Bumper Applique and Premium Accessory Package (mats, cargo net, and first aid kit). The sales tax rate in Avondale is lowest in the valley, 7.8%.

Contact Chuck Newman (sales manager), 623-512-3557, and tell him that Robert (PriusChat, Winter Gray PIII) referred you.

    Good luck with your purchase.

That is ridiculous. Tint costs from $150-$200 for a Prius.

Tell them to take it off as you cant see through it, then make them take off the charge.

If they make you pay for the tint and then ask for free stuff like mats and cargo cover to get some of your money back.

Rogers Motors Toyota in Lewiston, Id put floor mats in, charging $200 in my IV, which I could have purchased for $99. I asked it I could switch them out for the "all weather" rubber mats, which they had in their parts department selling for $99. They would not do it even though I told them I would be happy to pay the original $200. So I purchased the all weather mats for $99, right then, and told them they could keep the carpet set.

That sounds like a foolish dealer. He would have actually profited from the deal at that price, but oh well.

Is your all weather mat set for $99 a 2 piece or a 5 piece set? The reason I ask, Toyota's price on the 5 piece all-weather set it $199, but I have heard they also make a smaller, 2 piece set for the front only. Which are you getting? The carpeted ones for $200 are 5 piece.

Above the dealer's true cost, it all mark-up. I don't get the outrage. Dealers are charging MSRP right now beacuse they can. They're tacking on accessories right now because they can. If people will pay it, who can fault the dealer?

If you don't want to pay MSRP, and if you don't want to buy accessories, you've got to wait for inventory to build up.

I've already had two dealers call me, based on past business, trying to sell me a 2010. They want MSRP. I told them I understand, and to call me later in the year when they're ready to deal. We both understand that it's just business.

I am under the impression that if the equipment is listed on the window sticker, the dealer can not take those items out of the vehicle and then turn around and resell them. I could be wrong though.

That could be, I cannot confirm this, as it is my first NEW Toyota purchase. However, that said, my dealer was more than happy to remove the carpeted floor mats at $200 MSRP and replace them with the All Weather mats for $199 MSRP. Neither of them, to the best of my knowledge are on the Actual sticker.

Instead, I believe that they are both technically options. A dealer who wants your business may be willing to remove them, as they are likely port added options. If your dealer won't, mine will. PM me, and I will give you his contact info.

As a believer in free market capitalism I agree with the basic premise of your argument. However I do think that it's wrong to go in and order product X and to wait weeks/months to get it and then be told "hey I said I'd get you X, but I really got you X + Y, so if you want X then you must also buy Y". That's what I call bait-and-switch.

I get so annoyed at what I consider dealer's greed. GM dealers are probably suffering more than Toyota dealers but I can assure you that they will be whores when the new Camaro becomes available for sale. If a dealer told me I had to pay $432 for tint I'd say BUH BYE!!!!

For 4 piece, front/back seat all weather mats was $99. They didn't have a 5 piece in stock. The thing I don't understand is that I have purchased, since 1980, two 4X4 Tacomas, a Celica, a Corolla and this is my second Prius. It left a bad taste in my mouth that they wouldn't switch out for the carpet mats. There was no sticker as it just came off the truck - or they removed it.

In other words no more dealer loyalty from me. Not a long term thinking salesman and whoever he talked with.
