Bluetooth phone hard to hear. Suggestions??

    On my bulilt in bluetooth in the car, people say it sounds like I am in a tunnel. Are you getting the same thing and if so, how do you correct the sound? Do I need to take it in or can I tweek it myself? Thx!

    Mine sounded quite faint. I had to do the menu dance and increase the volume. Even in the diagnostic screen, I can only bump 1-2 bars of green (on a sound meter in the display) unless I shout. I'll dig through and see if there's a way to set the gain. Otherwise we may be making our first warranty claims ;)

    The menus are slightly different in the 2010. I'll video and YouTube how I got to mine.

    Nice video, thanks! Just a quick note that even the turning on/off of the headlight switch when pressing the info/phone button gets to the same initital diagnostic screen.

    Yep, I'm aware of that as well and think I mentioned in the YouTube video caption somewhere that there's "more than one way". With a fixed camera position, this was easier to demo.

    :mad: Didnt work. Every time I tried to push the 2 buttons upper and lower, it stayed on the genral setting screen. Wouldnt let me do it??

    I had the same problem; the headlight switch dance described above by pie worked.

    You have to do it rather quickly, and it's not a "button", but just the location of the screen - all the way left right under the upper and and above the lower line.

    If not, you can try the headlight trick as well.

    I can't say - your dealer may know. Ideally, I'd like to find a way to improve the response of the microphone itself, but haven't found a user accessible setting yet as we shouldn't have to turn volume all the way up just to get acceptable performance. Even at 5, I have to speak on the loud side of "normal conversation" to be clearly heard.

    Thanks. The receiving party's volume/clarity was an issue, and after this change, it's better.

    I would like to know this as well. I just couldn't swing the nav, but use the bluetooth phone all the time... anyone without nav experienced this problem... haven't got mine yet.

    I haven't yet asked about the volume on the receiving end, but I do know that every time I answer and first say "hello" I am not heard (or there is no response). It appears I need to say "hello" and then repeat it to be heard. It doesn't seem to be volume related, and it doesn't even change if I wait an inordinate amount of time before talking (after having "answered" the call).

    Observations? Comments? Suggestions?

    on my 08 you have to do that but if you wait for 1/2 before saying anything they hear you the first time.

    Still wondering if I didn't mess up by skipping nav.

    I'm thinking this might have something to do with the phone. Is there some kind of VOX setting on your phone? You might try syncing a model/brand different phone just to see if you have the same issue.

    I don't have a new Prius yet also. One option, since you are not getting built in Nav is to get one of the more full featured Garmins that have voice recognition. Some of those models have bluetooth phone capability and work well. I does seem like you shouldn't have to do this, but it may be another example of cheaper portable electronics working better than those built into Toyota vehicles.
