According to euro specs HUD will show speedo and either NAV instructions or Energy monitor.

See page 8 and 9 of attached brochure.

    :D

{EDIT} Just found this in the Geneva Motor Show PDF at the European Launch....

    "Head-up Display

A new Head-up Display will be fitted, as standard, across the Prius range. The Head-up Display projects key vehicle information onto the base of the windscreen enabling the driver to read it without taking his or her eyes off the road. Displayed information includes vehicle speed, the Eco Drive Monitor, Active Cruise Control status and the optional, Pre-Crash system.

Prius versions equipped with satellite navigation also benefit from the head-up display of turn-by-turn and distanceto-exit information. The display can be adjusted for height and brightness, or may be switched off altogether."

What's the price differences (adjusted for currency) between the EU and NA version? I am guessing the prices will be higher for the extra features... nothing is free, right.

Actually it's quite the opposite in the United Kingdom (Happy, my European Friends? :))

A fully tricked out American Prius V (with AT package, floor mats, remote engine start) comes to $33,249. That's £21,934.

A 2009 model with equivalent specs comes to £22,905.00. So the 2010 with the HUD is actually ~£1000 or $1,515 cheaper!

Of course Toyota will set a higher £ price due to the weak Yen/Sterling exchange rate, but I hope they're in the same ballpark.

Get out of here, are you nuts!?!?!?!

So for you Europe = UK????

As usual, as in everything else in history, the UK has always steped out or avoid joining or intentionally do things the opposite way of the rest of the world, and chose not to adopt the EURO for its currency.

It so happens that the British pound has fallen so much lately that it's almost for free, and that is THE ONLY REASON why a Prius is so cheap these days in the UK.

The rest of Europe, or at least all the others using EURO for currency (16 countries), the Prius costs almost double of what it costs in the USA.

A fully packaged Prius 2009 here in Portugal goes to 35000 EUR, that's about 47500 USD. Prices all around Europe vary of course, according to tax policies. But you can NEVER found a top equiped Prius for less than 45000 USD.

you expect the U.S. Model to get prototype products?.. psh...

this sounds normal.. japan and the rest of the world use it for a generation.. and we get it next generation.. .like the parking assist products.

Is the HUD something that can be installed aftermarket?

UK prices have not been announced, the 2010 has not been officially launched here yet. But I'm expecting quite a lot more than £21,934 for the top model with all options. Remember also that leather is not standard on any UK model, neither is metallic paint (though I'm sure most top model Prius supplied here will have both options).

These cars are coming from Japan. It's the local exchange rate with the Yen that counts. Plus of course local taxes.

Does UK separate out the delivery charge? As you no doubt saw here, ours-U.S.- is a standard $705 nationwide. What route do the ships take from Japan to UK? Through Somalia to Mediterranean or around the African horn? Regardless, a very long trip.

We have a number of prices quoted here.

I'll use a 2nd gen base model as an example...

You have the basic cost of the car = £15,419.42
then you have VAT (Value Added Tax) which is 15% = £2,312.91
Which gives you the retail price of = £17,732.34

We then have what we call the "On the road price". This is basically the retail price, plus the cost of registering the car in the UK, the cost of the licence plates on front and back, the first years road tax (which for the 2nd Gen Prius is £15 per year), and finally delivery to the dealership.

The OTRP for the above vehicle is £18,370.00 (so basically charging £637.66 on top of the retail price for delivery etc)

Using today's rates - that's $27,886 for a basic model 2nd gen Prius ready to drive away from a dealer.

At the top end of the scale Prius TSpirit is £21,210 "on the road" = $32,197 - and that's without leather seats and metallic paint which are extra.

Hopefully 2010 prices will be announced early June - so we can start doing our proper comparisons then :D

As for the shipping side - they come round from Japan to Indian Ocean, up towards Egypt, through Suez Canal, then through Med sea up past Spain, and up towards UK. Takes about 6 weeks I believe - quite a trip.

Oops - sorry - I just realised I covered a lot of ground that others had already explained at length.

That will teach me for not reading the full history before posting !

That's not too bad considering our 2009 model starts at Cdn$27,710 before tax. Depending on province, it can be closer to Cdn$33,000 on the road.

The lack of a HUD is one of the things that has me leaning towards the Lexus HS250h over the 2010 Prius as a replacement for my totaled 2005 Prius.

    Up to Rotterdam.

Then they get sorted and shipped to the various countries.

I'm about 60 miles from Rotterdam. I wonder what that does to my delivery date :D

You mean you're not happy enough that the Netherlands is the first country to have it in Europe? :D

I have it on my vette as well, and my Grand Prix before that, and like it a lot, especially the vette version with the ability to show graphics and road names. To each their own...
