Setting the GPS in the cupholder is not a good spot if you actually want to look at the screen. There is plenty of useful information there so it helps to have the screen visible, at least for me anyway.

Nothing wrong with the cupholder idea if you (not you personally) are fine with going only by voice commands though.

A Garmin 205 or 255 would probably work out well for you. The 205 does not say street names though.

The Garmin 255 does say street names. I haven't done too much research on the 205 but I think the only difference between the two is the street names.

I just did a quick Amazon check and the 205 is $120 and the 255 is $150. For $30 extra, I'd go with the 255 and get the street names. I have the 255 and am very pleased with it.

That's what I do, except I keep it on the left side. I feel like these GPS devices are way too distracting when they're mounted or anywhere in your peripheral.

I've had mine in a rag-top Miata and I've never had my window or top trashed. A good idea might be to get a used GPS off eBay that's sold for scrap and trash it up a little more. Then leave that one on the dash when you exit the car.

I see, so when someone smashes the window all they would grab would be a beat up GPS. Boy would they be pissed!

The problem is you still have to buy the used GPS and pay shipping.... Wouldn't it be cheaper to put an old beat up wallet on the dash with Monopoly money in it? Just imagine the look on the guys face after he smashes and grabs that sucker.... Priceless!!!

    Sorry, I couldn't resist. :D
