Hello all. I had just about given up on getting a Prius......I came so close buying a 2009 a few times the last two months, but it just did not seem to happen. A new 2009 was just a bit too much for my budget, so my wife and I decided against it, and resigned ourselves to buying something else at a lower price.

So today out of the blue, I stopped by my local Toyota dealer. Just last night he took in a 2007 Prius Pkg #3 in the driftwood pearl color. I really wanted a Pkg #3 Gen II and there it was. The price was over $10,000 less then A new Pkg#3 2009 would have cost, so this was well within my budget.

I pick it up tomorrow morning. It is Toyota Certified and was one owner who had everything done there since the first day. All service records, carfax, etc will be given to me.

They told me I should think about buying the $995 preminum warranty, and something about if it is not used after the 7 years are up I get the money back....they said it is from Toyota. I have to decide by tomorrow. I'm leaning towards not getting it, but they told me it is a wise "no brainer" deal. I'm at work now, and left the paperwork at home, so I can't say any more about it.

The car has 50,000 miles on it, which is high to me, but that is why a got a low price on it.....it should serve us well for a few years and in 3 years I'll be in a position to buy a new one if I wish. It looks absolutely perfect.....looks brand new.

I'm on cloud nine that i'm actually going to be a Prius owner !

Any advice on the warranty thing? I'm sure now that I'm switching from a wannabe to an owner, I'll have a ton of questions.....

    Thanks!! Frank D.

I wasn't aware they could sell the full Toyota warranty extension on a car past 36,000 miles, so I can't really give you the best advice. At the same time, I would really consider buying a policy on it. You have passed the original warranty period on miles, so you have nothing except the dealer's warranty (12 mos?).

The $995 price doesn't seem out of line -- if it includes all of what the normal extended warranty covers.

Remember that the 7 years is likely from the date of original purchase (in 2006 or 2007).

    Thank you all!

I picked it up today.....I really like it, but have so much to learn. I found out my ten year old garage door opener IS equipped for home-link, so I programed that....so cool!

Also, I did not think it was, but my cellphone has bluetooth, so I made my first call through the Prius...that was neat. I still need to figure out how to get my phone number list from my cellphone in the Prius.

My wife has the same model phone...can I program both phones for the Prius ? Can I just say a person's name and will it call them ? I drove around town today for 9 miles and avg'd 42 MPH. I know that is not impressive compared to you guys, but i'm used to 17 mph, so I'm impressed.

I have SO much to learn......but am so excited....who knew Christmas came on June 13th this year !!

P.S. Lisa, your Prius looks awesome!! That was the color we first picked. I like our sandy colored one, but I wish I knew the proper name for the 2007 light tanish color......

    Congrats!!

Yes you can pair up to 4 phones. However, it'll only auto-connect to the last phone that was paired before the car was shut off.

Well, I do not wish to bore anyone, but I was asked to post my "newbie" experiences......

I've had the car for 2-3 days now, and love it. I got it Saturday, and when I woke up Sunday morning I had to go out to the garage to make sure it was not just a dream. My kids think it is cool.....now that I'm 51, it gets harder to be "cool", but the Prius is a hit.

It's been sunny here, and I thought I'd need that awning over the display, but I do not think it is really needed......but we will see.

I want to buy a custom windshield sunshade sometime.

I've driven it around 75 miles so far, and have taken up and down some hilly roads. I've avg'd around 44 mpg. Perhaps that will improve with flat roads and more experienced driving. I'm not complaining.

I made a call through the bluetooth, but still need to learn how to imput my phonebook. I am starting to study the manual. I remember reading here that someone wrote a much praised manual......I want to download and print that also.

I also was told the color is Driftwood pearl. I like it. I do have some questions still, but I'll read more of the manual first.......

I really appreciate this forum. A good friend of mine owns a smart car, but after seeing my Prius, he is interested........

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery......

After searching for awhile, I just found John's famous Prius guide on page 12 of the sticky, "What every newbie should know".
I downloaded and printed it.........Thank you John!!

Now more to read.....I'm looking forward to it!

Hi Frank, Way to go on the new(used) Prius. I have bought a few new cars over the last 35 years and I still get the "new car" rush even when buying a gently use late model. Last week I picked up a used 2007 Prius ,package 2, classic silver metallic from the original owner. It had high mileage,57k, and a few small cosmetic paint issues , but for 13k , I coundn't pass it up. My first week with the "new" car has only gotten better, and I thank the pc forms for helping me increase my mpg by learning to "pulse/glide" . Best wishes on your "new" Prius.
