Thanks Mike! Great videos. Are you able to make a similar video on a non-nav system? Is it very different? I'm curious how the pairing will work without the touch screen. Thanks again!
I will Make a Video for the non navigation System I will put it up in the next day or so. If you guys want more videos please let me know.
Dave, Noticed you had a 2006. I jsut got one used and I can't figure out how to get the contacts from my 2G iphone transferred. It goes into the transfer data screen and on the bottom is (please start transmitting from the phone) and it stays ont he screen for a long time and nothing seems to happen. I canceled it after 10 minutes and nothing. Does it not work on the 2006 with the 2G? Is there a work around short of inputting all the names into the Prius? Thanks for any help. Rebecca
Wow - VERY cool. Makes me want to go get an iPhone and bag Verizon! I do have a iPod Touch - do you think that will pair on the audio streaming side? Will check it myself. Have ony had my Blizzard WHite Pkg IV a week now, but if you have any knowledge or tips I would appreciate hearing from you! Thanks. Charlie

FYI: I was able to download the OS 3.0 software very early this morning, and I gave it a test while driving today. WOW! Great sound quality. And, it DID pause and restart as promised. Even after I'd turned off the car and walked away for 20 minutes, when I returned and turned the car on, the stereo picked up again without missing a beat. All of this without my even touching the iPhone that was in my pocket. Love it!!
I have a 2010 pkg V with Nav. I just picked up the new iPhone 3GS this morning, and I'm having a few issues. I can connect the iPhone and transfer all my contacts just fine. All the 'phone' functions work just fine. However, I can't get the BT audio feature to work. It won't give me the option of registering the BT audio. It stays grayed out on the audio screen; and under the audio settings, the register button is grayed out. When I go to setup, under the bluetooth settings for the phone, I notice that the default passcode is 1212. For the bluetooth audio, its default is 0000. Do these have to match? When trying a few different things, I turned off bluetooth on the phone. When I turn it back on, it connects to the car like its supposed to, but I noticed that it now gives me the option to register it for BT audio. When I hit register, it disconnects the phone pairing, and then sits there. Like it disconnected the phone pairing, while trying to search for a compatible audio device. Anybody else having this issue? Thanks, Scott
Try disabling the phone pairing. Then, reset your password to something other than the 1212 default (which also was mine and countless others' as well) for both the phone and audio devices. Remember to push the "Save" button before exiting the screens. I'd then turn off the phone's bluetooth capability and turn it back on once you have the bluetooth setup screen ready on your car. Hopefully, then, you'll be able to do both connections at the same time. I must tell you I went through this dance yesterday, and I've already forgotten the order of getting things done. I do remember, though, that it DID work in the end. If you have other difficulties, please post. I'll try to review the steps I took to make it work!
I had this issue at first as well. Once I changed both passwords to the same (1212), I then was able to connect the iPhone Audio. However, at first, that then caused the iPhone Telephone features to be disconnected. I then simply rebooted the iPhone, and both connected automatically. Yeah! My first reaction is that the sound is really good. Listening to a bunch of different music styles, all played loudly, I was not able to discern any noise. However, I am somewhat dissapointed that the only informatin that I see on the NAV screen when playing music is "Bluetooth Audio", and a Play and Pause button. I had hoped to be able to somewhat control the audio and skip songs with the steering wheel buttons. Also, I had hoped that I was able to read the song and artist names on the screen, and this is not possible. Does anyone know if this is a NA limitation, or iPhone issue? Or is it working the way I should expect?
I have the same two initial reactions. The first was what I posted above -- the overwhelmingly better sound than I was getting through the AUX cable. After enjoying the entire first side of Abbey Road, windows down, light drive around town, I then started pressing buttons on the steering wheel, only to find out Volume is the only one that responds. I had hoped to be able to at least skip through songs on a playlist or in the album I'd chosen.
Got it working. I reset everything. Removed the phone from the phone list in the car. Told the iPhone to forget the car as a device. Deleted all personal information. And reset all the defaults on the audio and phone sections on the car. This time I started with the BT audio and got it to pair. Then when I tried to pair the phone it disconnected the audio and tried to connect the phone. I had to tell the iPhone to connect again under the bluetooth settings. Once I did that, it connected both the bluetooth audio and the phone. I've got both functions working now. Weird.
I'm also disappointed. Apparently, iPhone 3.0 OS *does* have AVRCP, but they've only implemented play and pause, and not the track forward and back buttons. The Prius *does* have this support, at least if the manual is correct. This is kind of good news, because Apple updates the iPhone releases more often than I change my oil - so I'm pretty sure we can expect an update soon that adds this sorely missed functionality. Dave
Hi Rebecca! Well, it's been so long since I imported to the 2006 - so I went to the car and tried it out. I had the same problem as you - and I couldn't figure out how to start a transfer from the phone... Then I remembered what I did so many years ago - I brought my mac laptop out to the car and transmitted address book entries one by one. It's not ideal, but it's the only way that I know of off hand with a 2006... sorry! Maybe someone else knows a better way. Anyone? Dave
I believe there is another way to do it, but I can't recall the method. Just do a search of two through PriusChat threads and you'll find it. I do recall, though, that the contacts are entered one at a time. It is a bit tedious, but not too bad. If you do a few at a time, you'll be OK. It's much better than doing all new entries into the car's system.
Re: Iphone OS 3.0 Review on the Prius 2010 (including iPhone 3GS comments) I had a very similar experience on my Prius V. I did have a couple of gotchas in the process... First, for me, I had to pair first was the audio device and then pair to run the phone. This was really impressive. iPhone 3.0 users, be sure to check out the new menu, after pairing, that's available in the Bluetooth menu on the phone. It lets you select which contacts sync over, both my group and by recent, among other features. Second, the pause control on the Nav head in the Prius works, but Play seems to be unreliable. Would have been nice to have more controls on the head, but it's a huge step forward. The audio quality from my new iPhone 3GS was excellent. I don't know if the Bluetooth hardware is different (I thought the hardware was enhanced with higher data rates, but I may be wrong) but it's VERY fast, it's EXTREMELY reliable, and the new camera hardware is top notch. A few things I could use help on: - One question I did have was what happens if you have the phone in audio device mode and you get an incoming call -- does it disconnect and repair with the Nav head? - Under the "Portable Player Info" on the Prius, it lets you specify if the phone or vehicle initiates the connection -- it isn't clear to me why you would select one or the other?
This is interesting -- I should probably test this out -- thanks for the post -- I know when I listen via headphones it always pauses and then restarts on call complete -- are you saying over Bluetooth it does not?
Yes -- they will transfer when you have OS 3.0 installed on your first generation iPhone. I had a first generation phone before upgrading to my new 3GS and it worked with both of them.
Yes, same exact issue with my 3GS. The way I solved this: - Unpair/delete the phone (both Phone and Audio on the car, and on the phone, delete the car) - Add the phone first as an audio device - Next, go into the phone screen, and hit connect For me at least, you need to have the phone connected either as an audio device or as a phone -- it seems to switch automagically back and forth, but I haven't tested this out fully. Also, be sure to check the menu hidden AFTER a successful pair and phone book transfer on your iPhone. It appears if you tap the right arrow on the phone next to "Car multimedia" -- you'll see a list of what types of contacts to transfer, if it should sync with the car, etc.
