    Hi--

Long time lurker and finally registered. I am planning to get my first Prius once the 2010s hit Connecticut and would like to place an order soon. From what I've read here, it looks like they have not quite arrived up here. My question is whether anybody from CT or surrounding states has placed an order with a dealer for MSRP or below, with no/little junk fees? I am going to start contacting dealers but thought I'd check if there were any recommendations before I do so.

    Thanks!

Pricing is a highly fluid concept for new car purchases. I suggest finding out the invoice price and MSRP for the model/package you are interested in. Keep that number in mind. Contact dealerships in your area (I have 5 Toyota dealerships within 15 miles of me, I contacted all 5). Tell them you intend to purchase a 2010 Prius, model x with package y in the next z days and you are calling dealers to determine who you will purchase from. Do they have that model/package in inventory? If so, what is the drive away cost for that car (so including all fees, taxes, et cetera). Tell me what each of those fees and taxes are. Rinse and repeat for all of the dealers you contact. Then compare, find the best price, and make your purchase.

Right now I doubt you'll get dramatically below MSRP given the limited initial supply. The longer you can wait the more supply and demand will stablize, and then pricing will be more favorable to buyers. Waiting till the end of the month is also a good strategy if you don't have anything pressuring you to make a purchase right now. Dealerships have monthly sales goals, and at the end of the month is a good time to find a dealer willing to be aggressive on pricing in order to meet sales goals since it results in a bonus that will more than make up for what might be lost on your individual sale.

Thanks for the suggestions...I actually have done my research and am planning to do just as you said. Before doing all of the calling/emailing, I was wondering if somebody had a recommendation for a specific dealer in New England where they were able to order a Prius at MSRP or less. I've had plenty of negative experiences with dealers so if can get a recommendation of one nearby that gave a good price I would start there.

Hey, I'm in a similar situation. I've emailed pretty much every dealer in CT. A-1 Toyota quoted me $32,720 over email for Prius V with ATP (MSRP $32,520). I'm not thrilled with the price, so I'm going to continue searching. They said they'll have a demo mid next week.

Keep us posted on your CT search!

    :welcome:

My dealer has a couple of cars coming in and they gave me the $200 floormats for free. But I paid MSRP and I had no hassles, no changing things at the last minute. No BS and I got exactly what I wanted at the price I wanted. You might get below MSRP at someplace but for me i'm happy and MSRP on a newly released model is fair.
I bought from Irwin Toyota in Laconia NH from Al Faro.
They will get some cars in in their next shipment. But CT is a 2-3 hour drive from NH.
I would NOT buy from the other 2 local Toyota dealers.
I was speaking with a guy who had a 2007 Prius and he was very unhappy with our other local dealers. He's thinking of going up to Irwin Toyota as well. But shop around and find out what's out there, get prices and compare. The Blue Ribbon metallic looks so nice. I am loving that color!

Just sent them an email. They claim they're charging 500 below MSRP. I asked about the availability of the Prius V, which is less than 3% of whats being produced according to another dealer.

Colonial Toyota said they'll have a demo on June 9th.

Do you sell at or below MSRP with no additional junk "dealer" fees?

I recommend A1, if you can get the right salesperson. They do have demos, and I test drove a III there a few weeks ago. It is a few hundred over MSRP, but they have good service, especially if you are nearby.

I actually ordered mine through Westchester Toyota in Yonkers. That's where I got the best deal. I haven't really liked the salespeople there, but the price did it for me. Don't know if Ron at Wallingford can help you, but I did an internet quote with him for a 2009 and it was significantly above MSRP. He said it wasn't up for discussion, and lost my business.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the tip. I have had similar experiences with all of the CT dealers I have contacted (which is most of them). Nobody has been willing to budge on the price, and all had "dealer" fees of $250 and up on top of that. I really would have preferred to buy from one of the local dealers, but they wouldn't even come close on price.

So I also ended up ordering from out of state. I have one ordered from Irwin Toyota in NH (thanks for the suggestions from Steve). Their internet sales manager has been great to deal with, the price was under MSRP, and they are delivering the car to me in CT for free!). My car is on the New Century 1 and so hopefully will be to me within 2 weeks. I will update on how the delivery/sale goes, but so far so good.

I second that. While Ron from Wallingford has been extremely helpful, they are charging in excess of $1000 above MSRP. A1 is charging only $250 above out the door (no extra's required). Plus A1 had a demo and Wallingford didnt (when I went)

Just wanted to update about my transaction with Irwin Toyota in New Hampshire since I got my car today!

No dealers in CT would budge from MSRP + dealer fees of $350-500, so on a whim and a previous Prius Chat recommendation I called Irwin Toyota, which advertises on their web site that they will deliver cars free to anywhere in New England. Their internet sales manager gave me $500 under MSRP + $226 dealer fee for a Prius II (OTD price w/mats was $22676, plus no sales tax in CT -- although it took me a long time to convince the DMV of that, another story).

I ordered the car in mid June and was notified soon after that a car had been allocated. Dave sent me the spec sheet and even was able to cancel some port options that were supposed to be installed, but that I didn't want. The car arrived at the dealer on 7/14 and today they drove it down and delivered it to me in CT. All went smoothly, and no surprises. I didn't even have to step into the dealership, no hard sell on anything, etc. All things being equal I would have preferred to buy in CT at a local dealer, but it was worth the extra $600 or so I saved. I did get the car with 200 miles on it (the distance from NH to CT), but that wasn't a big deal to me (would have been icing on the cake to have it delivered on a truck with a few miles only). Not sure what the CT dealers are offering now, but I have already recommended Irwin to a friend and would not hesitate to use them again.

    Love the car, BTW.
