I'm contemplating replacing my foglight bulbs. My goal is to maximize the lumens output. I don't care about the color of the light.

So the two best options seem to be either the Phillips vision plus or the new Hir bulbs.

Any opinions on which is better?

    Hi Seth,

I'd suggest that you check out this site and read the sections under 'fog lamps' and 'light color.'

From my research, this is one of the more knowledgable people in the field.

Also, check out under 'Sponsored Commercial Sites' on this site.

FWIW, I went with Hir bulbs..

    Cheers,

This thread talks about some nice halogen replacements for the fog lights.

So what bulbs have people chosen as replacement fog light bulbs and why? How bad was it to change the bulb? What was the replacement procedure? I am looking at the Phillips All Weather, Polarg or the PIAA plasma Ion yellow bulb to achieve true fog lights (we get a lot of it) instead of the anemic stock units. I've driven fairly extensively in France, at times in the fog, and there really did seem to be less glare with the yellow fog lights.

(Update: Danny fixed the link to halogens, it's working again.)

FYI, on my 06, I only had to remove the outer bolt on each side to get my hand in there. It's a bit easier on your hands to remove both, but can easily be done just removing the outer bolt.

Thanks. That's a big help. This even looks doable for a clutz like me.

DocVijay replaced his fogs with HID bulbs and ballasts. Check out his "mod" thread. I'm sold on this upgrade. It's more expensive than the HIR bulbs, but the brightness of the HID fogs make it worth the cost.

Yes, I like the lower energy consumption too.

Try the HiR bulbs on Sigma. There's one that has higher output AND lower operating temperature.

I don't have an opinion on this yet because I'm just starting to look into the subject but here's an interesting link I came across.
