windstrings: You're right, you explained correctly what it happens with the batteries. You pay only 30USD and you can fix yourself the car very easy. Why to pay for a new battery pack?:)

3000USD is 4 times my salary from Europe.. I wouldn't get moneys from the bank to make this repair, if my car would be out of warranty..:D

Anyway, it's from 2007, so I don't worry for hybrid system for the next 6 years.

Without further highjacking this thread... I'll have to see if anyone has posted instructions as to how to go about doing this.... this sounds like a good backup fix.

Wouldn't it be fun to take your 13Year old and have him help you do such a mod!

Indeed, it's a good backup fix.. and very cheap. If you find something, just please provide me a link here to read, or give me a PM. I'm really interested by this issue of an defective cell.

For your information, just read also this link, it may be a good source of information:

Buy some wheels, springs, and little mods. Have him work with you to modify the car over the weekends.

Maybe not drive a Prius? Or let your son have his own mind? I do not know.

Adding some aftermarket rims and lowering springs is a good option. Or if you have that extra money, a custom paint job (of your son's favorite color) could do the trick.
