PriusChat is proud to present Prius Drive Thru, a month-long road trip across America sponsored by Toyota. Russell Frost from priusownersgroup.com will be embarking next week on the 8,000 mile trip, stopping in 22 cities and going through 21 states. PriusChat is very excited to be a part of Russell's journey, and you'll be able to keep tabs on his entire trip right here on the PC. We'll be aggregating the Twitter, podcast, and video feeds as well as hosting some unique content from the Prius Drive Thru trip. You'll see a lot more information right here on PC as the trip begins next week. Plus you'll have a chance to win some goodies from some of the other supporters. Stay tuned! Official press release: priuschat.com presents Prius Drive Thru Sponsored by Toyota (http://www.toyota.com/prius-hybrid/ ) A priusownersgroup.com Road Trip (http://www.priusownersgroup.com/) With the vital support of the following technology providers; ContourHD (http://vholdr.com/) European Eyeware (http://www.europeaneyeware.com/) Griffin Technology (http://www.griffintechnology.com/) HDR Soft (http://www.hdrsoft.com/) Heil Sound (http://www.heilsound.com/pro/) K Hotels (http://www.k-hotels.com/) Keen Footware (http://www.keenfootwear.com/) Marantz Professional (http://www.d-mpro.com/) Mobile Edge (http://www.mobileedgeonline.com/) Titan Luggage (http://www.titanluggageusa.com/) Prius Drive Thru is the classic American road trip seen through the digital eyes of the 21st century. A month long, 8,000-mile journey around the United States in the new, third generation, 2010 Prius. Stopping in twenty-two cities and passing through twenty-one states Prius Drive Thru will visit or pass through more than dozen National Parks, Monuments and Forests taking in some of the most dramatic scenery American has to offer. Thirty days on the road is a long time and to keep the Prius Drive Thru team company during the drive will be hundreds of thousands of viewers (maybe millions?) on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Yelp. iTunes and the most popular Prius fan sites on the planet. Viewers will get live updates throughout the day through a number of social media channels as well as HD video and high-resolution still photography. Prius Drive Thru isn’t just about the online review or the 140 characters or less pithy remark, along the way they’ll be compiling in-depth performance data on the vehicle and sharing that publicly as well as creating a database of knowledge that anyone driving to any one (or more) of these locations can use for their vacations. The Prius Drive Thru team recently celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary by renewing their vows in front of Mayor J. Richard Gray, Mayor of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, their home. Russell Frost is a professional photographer. Kimberly Frost is a retired Federal employee. They both love car trips and have already spent thousands of miles together on the road. It’s not a reality show, it’s real. Prius Drive Thru will provide real data on the new Toyota Prius and genuine experiences that will be valuable to anyone who wants to pack up the car and take a few days off somewhere in America. Prius Drive Thru begins July 14th in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and will conclude on August 12th when the Frost’s return home. He is not coming to New York. I hope he reports on the MPG.

He's missing Washington state entirely! :(

Oh well... looks like a fun time, anyway! (and a trip that DH and I would love to make, sometime, too!)

Since I've complained plenty about Toyotas main advertising campaign, and begged for something that didn't include artificial giant daisies, Prius Drive Thru sounds like at least an alternative direction. I will watch with hopeful interest.

    OWCH!

Nashville is just a bit north of Huntsville and the direct route to Ashville would be via Knoxville ... too far north. But August 9th is a Sunday so I might 'take the dog for a walk' see a friendly face again.

I'll send him a note and ask if he can perhaps record legs with start/stop times, distance and MPG plus any other notes. He'll have a lot of opportunity to map out highway Prius performance and nothing is nicer than to have independent confirmation of one's data.

I kinda wished he'd taken a more Southern route and included Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and then headed back North. Still, that is an awesome trip through some spectacular country.

    Hey there!

First and foremost, thanks to Danny and priuschat.com for their invaluable support.

I'll try to address all the questions/comments here as part of this trip is exchanging as much information as possible, so if there's something you want to know, ask! Follow us on Twitter, post on the Facebook page and drop me a line:

    [email protected]

I am more than happy to share as much information as I possibly can.

So, to the comments posted here thus far.

Bob, I would absolutely love to hookup with you if we can. Our schedule is tight. While it seems like a month is a long time we've got a lot of traveling to do but I'll do my best.

Also Bob, I would really love it if someone who was math literate (which I am not) would create some kind of MPG matrix so I could track MPG over various conditions and then get some good average numbers as well. I'm willing to provide with any information you need if you can help organize it in some rational fashion. My thought was to break down each day into segments by general road conditions or type of driving (urban versus freeway versus state road for instance). Any help you can offer here Bob would be greatly appreciated.

Electric Me, I think Toyota has been really reaching out in a number of ways with the new Prius. I have to say, I they're way ahead of most companies in not just dropping huge money on TV or billboards but really diversifying their marketing with this car. So kudos to them. And yes, Prius Drive Thru is part of that and we agree, it's pretty cool.

Hey Wayne, I wouldn't miss GDE/HF for the world. I'll be there Thursday night through Sunday morning to capture the whole thing in stills and on HD video.

eak354, wait for it my friend. That's next year! (I hope) I would love, and I mean LOVE to push the "Power Mode" button and see what we could do Saddle Road. But that's up to other people. Stay tuned.

Hey Ms. Vynn. I would have loved to come up through your neck of the woods. In an earlier version of the trip we did have that on the itinerary but we had to limit it and sadly, Washington got bumped. Maybe some time soon. I would love to come out there.

Tony, you rock. I'll have to look closely at your route. There's only a few places where we're taking roads that are perhaps less obvious than what most guides would suggest. I'm sure you're close.

USBsea. Maybe this fall. I would love to do a swing through New England this fall. I have some great friends up in Bangor, Boston and in rural Vermont and I love New York. We will definitely be reporting detailed MPG information.

Manks, yes, if you're going to the west it's hard to avoid California. I mean, I can't avoid the redwoods, San Francisco, Napa or Yosemite. I have family in San Diego and we're stopping over to visit Toyota HQ in Torrance. That's a lot of stuff. But I readily admit, this trip is California heavy. I'm from there so I'm biased. That said, I can't wait to see Yellowstone (we have some very cool stuff in store for you there) and see Crater Lake. I would do this trip if it was only California.

Thanks again to each of you for taking the time to comment. Please do check out our other pages and if there is anything you want along the way, just ask!

    See you on the road.

Sounds like a fantastic trip. Can't wait to hear from you as you travel across the U.S. What will you be doing at the checkpoints? Are you travelling with a mobile display of some sort?

Well, heck, it would have been nice if Toyota sponsored *my* roadtrip
last year, which was pretty much all Prius all the time other than
the "tech week" in Denver. But I only managed to tag a little
piece of California, nowhere near Torrance.
    .
Thinking semi-seriously of a more southern swing this year, although
July/August is probably the totally wrong time to do that...

What an awesome trip, and Sedona is an excellent choice! If it wasn't on a Tuesday, I'd take the small road trip (or 45 min flight) myself to meet you up there!

If you've never been, this could be a photographer's dream.

I'm sure the pics you'll take and share will be far better (this was w/ my last P&S)!

Now if we could just organize a Prius "relay race" around the country. A "batton" or "trophy" or something would start in Maine and be passed by Prius road teams from segment-to-segement. Everyone who carries gets to sign the record with their mph, MPG, and date. Team carries would be permitted (aka., several cars in a group.)

Now my nefarious motivation is to get Prius people to start meeting each other locally. This in turn might lead to local Prius clubs. The first step is to meet each other 'face to face' and within driving distance. <GRINS>

Of course we also need little 'door prizes' ... something Team Prius might be able to help with. You know, convention 'trade goods' like Prius beads, Toyota caps, Toyota vest for those who carry the furtherest, . . . $50 gas coupons ... You know, good stuff (tm).

Well if you mean diversification of method of delivery, I agree. But up until "Prius Drive Thru" I haven't seen a lot of diversity in message delivery style/theme. It's pretty much been a White 2010 Prius, driving in Telletubby land, with singing nature sprites. Now evidently they are expanding to giant solar powered daisies being sent out to do evil in business parks and public areas. They lure the unexpecting with promises of ventilated bus stops. It's okay I guess. More seem to like it than dislike it. I'm in the minority.

Plus just for the record, I never said Prius Drive Thru was cool, I said I'd watch with hopeful interest. If I see so much as one giant daisy petal I'm out out of there!

Good Luck...bring hand sanitizer and Lysol. Public Restrooms are not usually solar ventilated.

Or any of my numerous Prius related road trips, including stalking the Prius Team in March for the drive time. But I still had fun. And Russell takes better pictures.

Yeah, I thought they just ice skated everywhere. My dad is from Winnipeg so I can make jokes about Canada, right?

Rick, beautiful pics of Sedona. The wife and I have been wanting to take a vacation there for years.
