So that's where we're stopping. And trust me on this, I've spent a considerable amount of time in the last six months going over the those stops and the route. But I'm one person. And what do I know?

So I ask all of you, suggest some good stops. Suggest a cool road. Tell me about your favorite roadside attraction that we might pass along the way. What about places to eat? Any great diners, fast food joints or restaurants along the way? And before you suggest rerouting the trip, it won't happen. I can make stops along the route but at this point, it's too late to do major rerouting.

I need your help. If you have a minute, please make a suggestion.

And just to make it interesting, if you reply in this thread you have a chance to win a Power Jolt Universal from Griffin Technology.

This little bad boy turns either of your 12volt sockets into a cool, dual powered USB connection. Charge your phone, your iPod or that whacky USB powered fan you got for Christmas last year.

And to make it a little more interesting, if you follow us on Twitter:

I'll add another entry under your name.

AND if you become a fan of the Facebook page, I'll add another entry.

So, there's two simple ways to increase your odds of winning all of which cost nothing but a few electrons a few moments of your time.

    Thanks.

If it's not too far out of the way, there's always the Sedona Airport Restaurant in Sedona, AZ. Food is average, but the views are spectacular, and you can look out over much of Sedona at the airport lookout nearby.

For those who don't know, Sedona Airport is up on a plateau and the views are breathtaking.

Minerva's is an excellent restaurant in downtown Sioux Falls. While in town, also make sure you check out Falls Park. The quartzite is very interesting, and it also holds some local history.

You should also stop by Wall, South Dakota and check out the famous Wall Drug...very fun place.

Mmmm... Some of the best fish I've ever had was the trout we caught in Yellowstone Lake. See if the lodge will cook them for you. Take a walk on the lake shore in the evening. Elk mommas and babies roam there in the twilight.

Rick, yes! That is exactly the kind of suggestion I was hoping for (in fact all of these suggestions so far are great). I'd never find that out from surfing the web and it sounds very cool. Dinner at the airport, why not!

Hey Fred, thanks very much for the offer. I may take you up on it. And with that said, some of the day's we're traveling are scheduled pretty tight, some aren't. I'll have to look at the Nashville leg. If we can work it out I'd love to hook up.

LRKII, that's exactly what I was hoping for. I would love to see the badlands. Well, I'd love to stop and dig around for some fossils. I don't think I'll have time for that but driving through would be very cool. Is there a specific road I should look for?

DMVP, thanks! I'll check out Minerva's and the falls. I may only be able to check out the falls early in the morning as that leg is a long drive but I'll definitely give it a try. They sound cool.

G-T, I don't know if I'll be doing any fishing but I hope to do some really cool things in Yellowstone. It's a surprise for now but I hope to get a very unique view of the park while we are there. We're staying one night at the Lake Hotel and one night at the Old Faithful Inn. I'm really looking forward to seeing Yellowstone in person. I've never been there before.

Thank you all for your suggestions and I hope some other stop in and offer their insight. That said, good odds for winning the Power Jolt right now to those of you who have already posted. Thanks again.

While in Ft. Bragg, the small town of Mendocino is about 20 miles South. The coastal scenery is much more spectacular than in Ft. Bragg. There is a wide variety of restaurants and things to explorer. It is has some of the best examples of the old North Coast building architecture in California.

    Have a safe trip!

Okay, Racine Wisconsin has the bestest little Mexican restaurant... Baldo's

It's been a lot of years since I've been in Racine, but the ethnic food there is AMAZING!
I seem to recall that there was a terrific Chinese place, as well...

When/If you go through Ft. Smith, AR you can stop and see the Fort Smith National Historic Site (Fort Smith National Historic Site (U.S. National Park Service)) where the "hanging judge" did his work, see part of the Trail of Tears, and have a nice walk.

In Russellville, Ar there's a Nuclear Power plant and you can get a greasy but delicious burger at Whatta-burger--It's not part of the whataburger chain.

Doe's Eat Place in Little Rock is a historic dinner place where you can get a great steak, enjoy the blue plate special, or even some fantastic tamales. It's where Clinton used to eat regularly and right near the downtown scene.

Finally, if you've never eaten at Rendevous Ribs in Memphis is is a MUST that you do. While you're in the neighborhood check out the marching ducks at the Peabody Hotel (only if time allows).

Mount Rushmore is not much more than a gift shop with John Phillip Sousa marches playing in the background. Do the Crazy Horse Memorial instead, it's an amazing work-in-progress.

It all depends on how you're going to be getting from Toledo, OH to Racine, WI. Besides, what the heck's in Racine worth stopping for? The easiest route for you would be the Chicago Skyway or the Tri-State Tollway. Either way, I can buy you lunch or dinner near my house or work depending on the time. Just you, Russell, not the entourage.

If you're looking for cool drives and have some time to spare (as if that'll happen), you can stay close to Lake Michigan as you head up through Illinois. This is easier if you take the Skyway. Zoom in on Chicago and look at where I-94 turns West but Hwy 41 stays heading North. Right there's a town called Highland Park. It's a cute little place. If you hop over to North Sheridan Rd, you will be driving through some of the nicest and oldest homes in the area. Right on the lake. Huge trees line the drive. Very nice drive. But only if you have the time to drive 35 - 45 mph. Might be a nice break from the interstates. And if you stay on it, it'll take you straight into Racine so it's not even out of your way.

well, i maybe playing favorites, but having been a military brat along with a bit of meandering of my own as an adult, i have seen quite a bit of what this country has to offer.

but it seems criminal to drive that far and not see the Oregon Coast or any of Puget Sound.

Good point on the Crazy Horse Memorial. I may actually go to both if time allows.

Tony, I spent a good bit of my childhood in Racine and I'm doing a photo essay while I am there that ties in with that. I also hope to shoot some of the FLW architecture there. Don't bag on Racine dude.

And no entourage, just my wife and I.

If I drive your route I have drive through Kenosha (shudder). I'm just kidding, for those of you with affection for Kenosha.

I'll be passing through your territory either Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon. Let me know where a good place to meet you would be if you want to get together. That said, I'm going to be at GDE for the whole show, so I am certain we can spend some time commenting on each other's entourages there as well.

And not to beat this riff to death but I find it funny the guy who showed in Detroit in a group of like forty people worries about the size of my entourage.

Evan, thanks for reminding me about Doe's. Definitely have to stop in there. We've actually planned to spend an afternoon at the Clinton Library, it's about a block from out hotel.

LRKII, Cactus Flats eh? Sounds like something out of the pixar movie, "Cars". I'll definitely check that out. I would love to cruise the badlands.

And Dave, you're absolutely right. I was dying to spend at least a day on the Olympic peninsula the other times I've been to the area. But all those time I was there on business and I didn't have a chance. And yes, I still feel that pain. But as I said, you're right. I do wish I could have extended the trip in that direction. Over the last five months or so this trip has evolved considerably and the one thing I've learned is, no matter how much I change the trip, I'm missing something, somewhere. So I just tried to create one good path and do the best I could within that route. I would love to do a trip that focused on the northwest and the mountain states. Maybe someday.

    Welcome to California!

While in Fort Bragg, check out North Coast Brewing Company. Hand-crafted beer from Mendocino County, and great food to go with it.

In Napa, you must stop in at Taylor's Refresher (actually in St. Helena, but in the heart of Napa Valley). A true drive-in, Napa Valley-style, with a fantastic menu featuring burgers and these amazing sweet potato fries. And the best part is, they feature really great Napa Valley wines on the menu, by the glass!

Yosemite is very crowded in the summer, and in Yosemite Valley, can be very warm (90-100 degrees). But if you head out of the Valley up the Tioga Pass, stop off at the White Wolf Lodge around sunset (call ahead for a reservation). There is no place like this in the world --- literally a very small lodge-style restaurant on the edge of a meadow, with seating on the porch, so you can watch the deer come out at sunset in blissful quiet and serenity.

Sounds like an amazing trip. I'm jealous.

If you've never been to a Fry's Electronics, be sure to stop by one. See FRYS.com. The Campbell one isn't that great but I can't speak to a lot of the others, esp. those outside Nor Cal. The Manhattan Beach one is ~7 miles from Torrance. While I've never been to it, apparently the Burbank location has an alien crash landing theme (http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/1858).

When in So Cal, if you have a chance, do some of your drive down the PCH and consider stopping at places like Malibu, Pepperdine University (view is pretty nice from the hills), http://www.thirdstreetpromenade.org/ in Santa Monica, Santa Monica Pier, Mann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood for the hand prints and what not around there.

A friend of mine had his wedding at La Venta Inn (in Palos Verdes Estates, 4.1 miles from Torrance) which has an incredible view but off hand, I don't know how much of a view you might be able to get if the venue is booked. If you were a Reagan fan, drop by http://www.reaganlibrary.com/. It's in Simi Valley so it's a little bit off the likely path you'll be taking. You may not have time for it. http://www.yamashirorestaurant.com/info_contact.html has a nice view IIRC (only went there once).

I assume you'll be going down the 405, so the UCLA campus, Bel Air (behind UCLA) and Beverley Hills aren't that far off the path. If you go to UCLA, be sure to take pics of Royce Hall and Powell Library.

Also, in California (and a few adjacent states) do drop by an http://www.in-n-out.com/locations.asp if you see one.

You probably know all the touristy stuff in SF already but I'll mention a few others: Legion of Honor (nice location), Twin Peaks and Palace of Fine Arts.

The National Park Service has really good maps of all their
areas; you can pull down the one for the Badlands in PDF and
see all the roads to take through it. 15 bucks at the gate
or so, if I remember right; it's their standard entry/use fee
for pretty much every area they're in charge of. On my trip
I went to Wall first, through the badlands, and back up toward
Rapid City on 44 -- sort of a zigzag but overall, not very far.

I don't know how early in the day things will be starting for you in Madison, but if you have time, get up early on Saturday morning and head for the Capital. Nothing will get you ready for a day of hanging out with green car fanatics ( ;-D ) like breakfast at the Madison farmer's market, which circles the capital building. Grab a loaf of hot bread from one vendor, some squeaky fresh cheese curds from another, some bison summer sausage over here, and of course your favorite seasonal fresh fruit over there. Wow! I can't wait to get back to Wisconsin!
