I guess the subtlety of my joke prevented your understanding. Even with the :D at the bottom of the post.

You're right, I just realized it'd be perfect for my work badge. It'd be an interesting mod for the US Prius, just order the panel (which is the size of a sheet of paper) in your interior color from Toyota in the country that stocks them and swap them out. What other countries beside Singapore have the cupholder panel? What about Canada?

Let me guess...this is the part where I get excited for one of the most awesome features ever invented being present in the Prius 2010 - HUD. However, this is also the part where I realize the EXTREMELY lucky person who posted that actually does not reside in the US or anywhere near it, and therefore, since I have never heard of an HUD in the Prius, it is very likely that that is available to him and his extremely lucky country only. Then, this is the part where I punch my cat and proceed to rant to my wife about how much I hate country-restricted features.
Did I get that about right?

US Lexus has HUD, so it's more a matter of them crippling features in Toyotas due to costs and so as not to compete with Lexus in terms of features. Current 6th gen Toyota NAV is exactly the same as the outdated 4th gen Lexus NAV used in 2004-2006 model years.

I really doubt it affects the cost for them. $3600 for the Prius navigation? Really? It is seriously overpriced. How much does it actually cost them per navigation system...$2000 maybe? but certainly not $3600. They could very well charge us $3600 for a current Lexus type nav and still make good money. I think they are simply trying to make people buy a Lexus if you want the good tech stuff. Problem is, people like me who don't give a damn about so-called "luxury" cars, but do give a lot more than a damn about cabin tech, are left in limbo. Why can't I have a not-so-luxurious-but-quite-cool-hybrid-Prius with the awesome cabin tech? Honestly, keep your wood inlays, leather seats, attempt-to-be-fancy numerical names and more-often-than-not-unneccesary-"sporty"-horsepower, and give me an HDD based nav and an HUD in my Prius. Is it really too much to ask? ( I dont know for a fact, but I have a gut feeling, that as always, Japan has exactly what I just said I want. It would be funny if I turn out to be right)

FYI: NAV (including the backup camera) is $1800. $3600 includes the sunroof.

I agree. I have beaten this to death in other threads but I don't really consider the Prius cabin a high tech paradise. The NAV is outdated and expensive; the JBL meets my expectations but they could have instead used a Bose-quality or similar and made it a bit more expensive for the upgrade (most people that are willing to pay extra for premium sounds wants high quality, not just good quality); the IPod connection is a mess (connector is not available yet for NAV models, non-NAV can have it for 400 bucks (installed - absurd price) but it knocks off the satellite radio, nobody is really sure if iPhone Bluetooth streaming works with non-NAV-JBL); there is no HUD in the US but available in other countries; I mean, the Prius is an outstanding car in fuel economy, very fun to drive, and the HSD is really a neat technology, but Toyota made lots of mistakes in the interior technology. In these days, it does not have to be a luxury car for a high tech interior, take the Fusion hybrid as an example. It blows the Prius out of the water in cabin high tech features and its price is very competitive with Prius 4 or 5. After owning my Prius for a few weeks (model 3), I guess I would still prefer a Prius 4-5 over the Fusion hybrid because its overall fun factor and better fuel efficiency, but it would be a hard decision for me and I bet Toyota is losing some clients on the 30K price range. Accordingly, the fusion hybrid is the best thing that happened to Ford in a while…

Now that you mention it, the Fusion Hybrid's existence proves my point. Non luxury car with hardcore tech inside. I wish the Prius had taken that path...

I'm sure we'll be getting the HUD on a future model of Prius in the US. Just like the side turn signals, they'll be the "NEW" and "IMPROVED" reasons to buy a 2013 instead of a used 2010.

For a company whose excuse to not allow consumers to choose options is factory efficiency, they sure like to design and build a lot of different versions of the same car.

Learned yesterday while getting a close look at a Canadian 2010 Prius "technology package". For those who get them, the Toyota floormats are water holding winter mats when set upside down (drivers mat on passenger side, passenger mat on drivers side). Flip them and they are carpeted "summer" mats.

I don't think my GII mats do that, but will check today when I wash Pearl.

I think Toyota will eventually take that path and I hope they do.

My whole point is: if they want to add some high tech feature, they should add the best and charge accordingly. It's up to the buyer's judgment to decide whether or not the price charged is worth it. By adding features with less-than-desirable or poor quality (like the NAV for that matter) and yet overcharging for them is definitively the wrong way to go.

OK: before anyone bash me again for criticizing the Prius NAV... Once again, no matter how happy you are with it, it is NOT even close to being a good NAV system...

They tilt, but the view is better with them gone. I don't have backseat passengers more than once or twice a year so leaving them out is not a hardship. And think of the weight I save. :)

Hold on a second there bud...say what?! I live in Texas. Tinted windows are a requirement, not a choice. Does that mean I am basically not allowed to have navigation?

Folks, this thread has seriously gone off topic. If your post/reply isn't about "obscure facts", put it somewhere else!

    :focus:

Here's a couple more observed today:

    * Max engine RPM happens somewhere between 70-74mph, which is higher than the Gen II's 62mph. This means you don't realize the full 134hp combined until at least that speed, and this assumes that the electric motor is still capable of 36hp at ~8000 RPM.
    * With light pedal pressure, you can maintain stealth mode (no ICE) up to 46 mph (75 km/h). However, when attempting to glide at or above this speed, the ICE will not shut down until ~ 43mph (< 70 km/h)

And more that just came to mind:

    * When switching between Power, Normal, and ECO with the gas pedal pressed < 50%, the car will smoothly add or remove power as needed to match the new mode vs. pedal position.
    * There are two separate places to place the hood prop when holding the hood up.
    * Even those the 2010 Prius doesn't use a coolant thermos, there's a delay between powering up the car into Ready and the engine start (if it starts at all).

There is a nice sized floor pocket for stuff just left of the drivers seat. Wait! There is more good news. There is another pocket-sized area on the passenger's side. We can never have to many places to stash our stuff!

I see one on the left front edge of the engine compartment. Where's the other one?
