Overall it was a very positive piece and the cars looked great! They gave Adam Carolla a Prius with 2 gallons of gas to get from LA to Santa Barbara---a total of 100 miles. He made it. Lucky he wasn't here in AZ. Today was 115---the AC would have killed his chances of getting 50 mpg.

I missed the first airing. Looks like it's being rerun (for me on DirecTV) on
    7/18 10:30 am
    7/26 11:30 am

Your times might be different than mine esp. since D* sometimes uses East Coast feeds.

I wonder when they taped that show. Right at the start, they were at an LA gas station and the price was $3.38/gal. I can't remember when the prices were that high - maybe Oct/Nov?

The Napa portion was taped on June 22nd. They mentioned that in the segment with Brian Vickers ( Red Bull Toyota ) was the day after the NASCAR race at Infineon Raceway.

I found the signal here is a little weak, I'd also like to see it on line.

Really? I know that when cars are tested for fuel efficiency, they usually do it with no air conditioning, no stereo, etc...
But how much does running the A/C actually affect the mileage in the Gen III Prius?
Is it really impossible to hit 50 mpg while using the A/C?

I know I've gotten 50+ for my first two tanks so far, see my Fuelly link in my signature for details. Both tanks were with the AC on auto between 76 and 80 F.

Yeah turning off the AC is not an option here in Austin. I don't really care to arrive at work dripping in sweat.

The Speed Channel continues to show their road test of the Prius. I finally got around to watching it today. Very entertaining. Carolla is a total hoot with lines like, "It's ironic that I drove to Santa Barbara on two gallons of gas, but had no business up there so it was a total waste of gas!"

Hard to say when they will play it again. Maybe somebody can search their tv listings every week. PROGRAMS - SPEED-TEST-DRIVE-TOYOTA - PINKS, My Classic Car, Unique Whips, American Thunder, Super Bikes! - SPEEDtv.com

Anyone know where one could catch a rebroadcast of this program? Or what key words to have my DVR seach for? I typed in "Prius" and "Test Drive" and got no hits.

Just did some deep searching and come to find out the entire video is
on Hulu.com Here's a link to it. My wife and I just got through watching
on HDSOD (High Definition Showcase On Demand) on Time-Warner
Cable. If you have a a TW cable box you should be able view there.
Look for "Toyota Test Drive" on SpeedTV. If not you can watch it here:

Direct Link: You'll have fix the http or it automatically embeds the video.

The problem with hulu is that no one outside of the U.S. can see it.

A "direct link" ends in .mp4, .m4v, .flv, .mpg, or similar filename
extension that allows a visitor to directly download/stream the
real video. Nothing with some flash-based wrapper can be called
direct, please disabuse yourself of that notion once and for all.

I just watched it on HDSOD last night. I thought Adam Corolla's comment about when he first saw the Prius his thoughts were, "well it's OK". Then after driving it and seeing all that it can do, his thoughts changed to "WOW". I think that sums up my initial feelings.

As for the mistake, was it when Josh makes the statement about ECO mode being that the computer calculates how much fuel to use when you push on the accelerator?
