Hybrid Drivers More Ticket- and Accident-Prone - The Car Connection

Hmmmmm? Gee, we drive more because we have a Hybrid or we drive more therefore we bought a Hybrid? Decisions, Decisions eh? That sentence seems to cover about everything including accident proneness, i.e. we're on the road more give me a break. Same with the tickets my job requires I drive a lot, therefore, I bought a Prius and since I'm on the rode more it makes sense that I'm more likely to get more tickets. Also I don't get the higher costs look at my recent read-ender and the resulting cost. My Auto-Body guy blamed it on the cost of Toyota replacement parts. Don't care I'll get another and another and another and well you get the idea. :yo:

I would hope that they would not raise insurance rates just because you have a hybrid. Don't most of us tell the insurance company how many miles we average a year? My insurance went down when I had a closer commute and then back up when I had a further one. I debated about not telling them that my commute was longer, but I did not want to get in an accident and get busted for fraud, because that would be my luck.

Yeah, that was one of the things I was thinking, i.e. how truthful are people when telling their Inc.Co's how many miles driven per year and how reliant were they on this figure being accurate.

Weird. I see a lot of "I got ran into" threads, but except for run-ins (literally) with various fauna, I don't remember seeing any "I ran into" threads.

Unlike the other (Evolution, STi, S2000, etc...) car forums I frequent, this one has the least (like 0) posts that read like:

"I've driven the corner a million times before, but the [part of the car] [unexpected behavior] and I ran the car into a [tree/hard object/other vehicle]. BTW, parts for sale."

    Hi wild...,

There is already a thread on this.

As LoraJ has mentioned the arguement made in this artical is basically flawed because insurance is written based on the insuree's mileage. You have to tell the insurance company how many miles a year you drive. D'oh.

So chalk this one up to unreasoning envy generating FUD.

    So Sad :(
I did get a ticket for speeding in my 2005. Cop asked my how fast I was going...I'm no fool, I said I didn't know. Thank goodness he did not clock me at my fastest. I was being a bad Prius driver that day.

Anyone else notice there are 3 non-hybrids in the background looking pretty sad too?
