my name is Alex, and I joined this forum to get advice on buying a Prius. I live in Milwaukee- the land of loud motorcycles- and am ready to 'go green'. There is a used '08 Prius online at backpage.com in the Milwaukee car/truck/auto section under July 8th- I realize posting the direct link would come off as spam- but I'm not sure if this is a good price for resale, and whether I should be buying a used Prius at all. It has no mileage posting, which worries me, but still it's well within my budget and I'm tempted to engage. If anyone can help me with this procedure, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

My husband just bought a 2008 with 13 K on it. He loves it....I do too so much so that I've ordered myself a 2010. He paid 17,900 for his. It seemed very fair as carmax was selling them for quite a bit more. It is a dandy car!!

I'm from Michigan and usually if the price is too low, it has what we call a rebuilt title, which means it's been in a major accident and repaired and inspected.

Exactly my thoughts. Well, here in CA we call it a "salvage" title, if you've heard of that?

Anyway, that's probably what it is, which you DON'T want. ;)

Hey, neighbor! We just ordered a 2010 Prius II from Wilde a few days ago after checking out the used Prius market in Milwaukee and surrounding areas. We checked out Craigslist and cars.com in Milwaukee, Madison, Minneapolis, and Chicago. It looked like there were a lot of good deals in Minneapolis, but they were almost all salvage vehicles when I checked them out on carfax. There were a couple of decent looking deals in Chicago, but the difference between new and used even for those did not seem worth it to us, so we didn't make the drive to check them out. I think for us it came down to the fact that we really are mainly interested in getting transportation from a car, so the bells and whistles (other than the back up camera) don't even tempt us. If you want a lot of extra features, I think you can find a good deal by buying used, but if you just want a car to be a car and don't care much about how good the stereo system is, the used Prii just don't depreciate enough to make them worth our while.

Whatever you do, if you are going to buy used, be sure to get a carfax.com subscription. That $40 saved us a trip to Minneapolis.
