I don't know about the 01, but on the 06, you do have to move the seat all the way forward so when you get in the back floorboard area to look underneath you can see the unit.
On ours there is a little slide lock switch on the left that opens the dust blocker that will allow the slit for the DVD to be viewed.

thanks on my 01..it was EASILY accessible right under the passenger seat.

Is there any special procedure to install the new version nav cd or do you just pop it in and it will load?

I hear there is some issues with some I agree button? Whats that all about?

    TIA

"wow Pria, is this the disk thats recommended for your make of car?
I hear the firmware of the player gets updated when these install.
Normally things are only greyed out if you are moving. If they are greyed out all the time I would try and reboot and try again, if that doesn't work, investigate as to whether you are running the right disk.

I have no experience with the symptoms you describe.
I wonder if your old disk still works?.. but I wouldn't try to reinstall it till you have a handle on this first.

We have a 2006 and 2007 Prius. We want to update the NAV disk to the latest. Where can we get them at a low price?

I read this entire thread and didn't get what I needed is why I asked. But a price of over $200 is a bit much.

I bought mine from Troy "[email protected]"

however, I don't recall it being cheaper, but it could be now .

The price of 229.00 is the best price I know.

Copies are very finicky and by the time you "ever" fine one that works, you'll most likely wish you just bought it.
Making a copy is one thing thats quite an accomplishment... making one that works in "another" player is even more of a challenge.

Double density DVD disks are not cheap to turn into coasters... most give up pretty quick.

You could give Troy a call and see what he knows.

Well I contacted troy and he can't help me. This is what he said:

Unfortunately I can't really help much with parts and accessories. We're too small of a dealership to compete with the big dealers really going after the internet market on parts. Everytime I've gotten someone a price on something it doesn't seem to be competitive with dealers that are specializing in online parts sales.

Sounds like Metro may be the best now anyway... I think Troys price was a tad higher.. it sounds like as good as his price was, he is not competing with the larger dealerships that can order greater numbers and get better prices is my guess.

229.00 is a good price for an unadulterated perfect disk.

If you really need it, its worth it "like for your work in downtown pickups etc".. if just for convenience.. maybe not... and update every 3 - 5 years should get you by.

If you buy one, just make sure its the latest out for a while.. would be ashamed to get one right before the next update.

I think updates come out around Oct/Nov "If I remember right" or so and they are always dated as being for the prior year since thats the last "full" year to date.

I'm sure it takes a while to compile all the new data and get it into code etc.

    Hi Carl,

Can you enlighten me a bit? I'm contemplating an upgrade but don't want to loose override functionality. Here are my questions:

    1. If I purchase the Gen 4 8.1 NAV DVD, the firmware on my DVD drive will get flashed and I will be unable to use the override reached via the volume screen?
    2. If I purchase the 8.1 DVD, your post leads me to believe that I can extract loading.kiwi from my current NAV DVD and create a copy of the 8.1 DVD including the old loading.kiwi file?
    3. Based on my searching, I can get a Gen 5 DVD cheaper than a gen 4. (no real reason why I suppose). Is there any way to make the gen 5 disc work in my gen 4 nav? I am of course assuming that the map data is formatted the same and only system files are different.

    Thanks for your help!

Can anyone confirm when the updates are revved.

I am interested in updating my old '06 DVD with a newer but I definitely want to get the newest/latest version before laying out $230+ for one.

I have a trip to Vegas planned for New Years and want to know the quickest route out of there if need be

Thats lame... they don't want to waste their time with you unless your ready to buy right now under any circumstances.... sounds like they are over worked or under managed, or both.

You could call another... there are tons.

But anyway, I think its around Nov before you can get the latest... maybe Oct 15, but I'm going by memory.

I just bought a new in the package DVD from next-bid-wins on ebay for $137. Put in my 2004 Prius and it works great.

He sells lots of Lexus parts but the DVDs are the same for both models with Gen 4 DVD player. All compatible years and models are listed in the auction. Not the latest by any means but I'll take two years old for that price.
