URGENT ALERT - California HOV Lane Usage Bill Hearing 4-12

    Everyone in California who supports hybrid vehicle use of the HOV lanes by driver only occupied vehicles should comment on the legislation before April 12 when Assembly Bill 2628 will be discussed in the Transportation Committee. It is easy to do by going to http://www.assembly.ca.gov/legcomment and entering Assembly and bill number 2628. Check off support and add a comment if you like.
    Letters to your state assemblymember would also be in order.

    I'd appreciate a quick e-mail note letting me know that you sent either a comment or a letter so that we can gauge our numbers here in CA. I have been informed that letters from Prius Clubs will carry more weight, so please contact me ASAP if you have formed or are forming one so that I can pass on more specific info to you.

    If someone wants to draft a letter from PriusChat, I'd be happy to have my name and the site's name attached to it.

    I'd of course like to see a draft before a final letter is sent out on behalf of PC.

    Thanks for the info! I just sent off my comments with the support option checked. I identified myself as a new Prius owner who commutes 75 miles each day. During peak hours, the HOV lanes are both underutilized and over-abused. Adding hybrid vehicles to the allowed list would most definitely help alleviate traffic congestion based on an unambiguous criteria.

    amen, bro! i'll go there, too... i've been fighting hov lanes on my website for years, and picking on Gary "Mr. Roadshow" Richards of the San Jose Murky News for years.....

    I just posted this to the legcomment website:
    HOV lanes are still underutilized. This is a good way to incentivize vehicle efficiency through use of infrastructure, the cost of which is already borne.

    Following up on Sev's tip, LA CAR.com writes about AB 2628, what the bill will and won't do (it hinges on passage of a Federal energy bill), and what cars qualify for single-occupant HOV access if the bill passes.

    Done, although, if you think about it, it's better to have line of waiting prii, than a line of waiting non-hybrid cars... :D
    Prii stuck in traffic jams do not pollute :D

    I went a little further ...

    "This bill makes sense.

    However, I am not sure about limiting the number of decals the DMV can issue, or excluding vehicles later than 2004 that qualify.
