I find surprising the preference of people to use as grandiose a job title label as possible.

Anyway, F8L is right. Prior polls from G1 and G2 eras had relatively high percentages of MD's and engineers.

I'm an electrical engineer. I also own the electronics company for which I work, so my job title varies depending on who I am trying to impress.

As for the observation about impressing people with job titles, my dad is just the opposite. He loves to let the air out of stuffed shirts. Here is a good example, but it requires some background information: My father was the head of marketing for a large paper company, but left industry in his forties to head up his own marketing and design firm. This gave him the freedom to move our family up to the wilds of Northern Michigan. The local school was in desperate need of a bus driver, and one of my father's friends talked him into helping as a substitute driver. My dad was able to do this because of his flexible schedule. He enjoyed the kids, and ended up driving for many years.

So here is the story: My parents went to a class reunion, and found themselves sitting at a table full of successful people. Each in turn described what they were doing and how successful they had become. They were doctors, lawyers, and captains of industry. After each had told their story of success, one of them turned to my dad and said: "So Jim, what are you doing?" Without pause my father replied: "I drive a school bus." No one said anything. They didn't know what to say. My father loved it. He never did tell them anything else.

Another story involves our family complex. My father personally built the large building that houses our office and residence. He was outside laying brick for a sidewalk. The complex has 60,000 bricks, so he spent a lot of time laying brick. A woman admiring his work asked him if he was available to do a masonry job for her, to which my father replied: "No, I'm sorry, the woman that owns this place keeps me busy full time." He was, of course, referring to my mother.

My father loves to have people admire his work, but he doesn't want to brag about it. I admire his style.

I find modesty very attractive. It suits my personality, and thankfully in medicine it is viewed positively. Then again, I have nothing to do with marketing or admin :)

Both of my parents did their undergrad work at Kalamazoo College. They went to school so long ago I don't know if there were SATs. If there were, I'm sure he wouldn't remember his score. He claims the brains in the family come from my mother, but then that's just like him.

I was a student (chemistry major) and pharmacy technician. Then I was an analytical chemist for 2 years. Then I became a student (astrophysics major) and pharmacy technician again. In about a month I'll be a physics grad student.
