I know this may seem strange, but please bear with me. I have a problem. I recently returned from afghanistan and upon my return i bought a 2009 Mustang GT. in the month i've owned the car, i've spent nearly $3000 modifying it. i've already added nearly 20rwhp and cost my mpg to slip to 9mpg/city. hell, i just spent 1500 today! at the rate i'm going i'll be supercharged before christmas. before my deployment, i was always cautious with how i spent my money, well, since returning i've changed. i'm sure some of you prius owners can relate, you all are probably saving up for a new battery, ethonol tank, or whatever, so you know it can stretch the wallet. the members of a mustang forum that i'm a member of have done nothing but joke around and make light of a situation that i think is serious. all i want is for them to try and talk me out of any future mods i mention. do any of you have any advice or tips? maybe just support? thanks in advance. and i don't care about what they say about prius owners, at least you're there when a fellow motorist has a problem.

Maybe you need to look a little deeper into what you are doing. The problem may not be that you like to mod your car and spend all your money on it. It could be that your just spending more than you should period? Maybe some help and good advice on how to handle your money and live within your means is what's needed?

If your in the military there should be some help available for returning veterans. Talk to some of the senior people in your unit and maybe they can send you to someone who can help.

Of course maybe I'm completely out to lunch on this, if so no offense intended just ignore me. I'm a veteran myself but that was another war a long time ago and a lot of us had problems when we got back..

I know what you're going through for sure. Having done three deployments in Iraq I can honestly say from my experiences and from what I've seen in other people that deployments change everybody, I don't care who you are.

Some people are way tougher, mentally than others, but everybody needs some support now and then and everybody has a breaking point. It's awesome that you love your car, and modifying isn't the worst thing you can spend your money on but there's no return on it. I modified the hell out of a WRX and made it run low 13's plus made it fast as hell around a corner but it didn't fix my craving.

You have to figure out what's missing and work on that, that's my advise. Lean on your buddies when you have to and be there if they need a hand. That doesn't sound tough or mean but it's true in my opinion. There's my 2 cents....

    101fng,
Thanks for your services for our country.

That said, I think the unstoppable carving is probably a symptom of anxiety or depression.
You need to seek professional help quickly before it gets worse.
    I wish you the best.

honestly, i didn't think my past deployment was playing such a role in my spending/modding habits. i think you all are definately right in that it is something that should be given attention. thanks for all you help and support.
