qoute : "hills are no longer a dread like they once were"

you dont buy a hybrid for speed and hill climbing.
i dont see the piont in puttting a dirty diesel in a clean car.

    omg sounds like a tractor

it also looks like the IMA is gone.............

and all of this on a website called redlightracing.org... yhea right.

co2 is a big hype right now
and yes it maybe important for eath warmup but clean(er) air is important to and thats not something diesels provide.

Latest news: There might not be a Yaris Hybrid in the plans after all, according to AutoCars.uk: Report: Toyota Not Planning Hybrid Yaris After All : Auto News

One can dream though, right? As much as I am skeptical a penny-pinching consumer would be willing to shell out upwards of $16,000 for a subcompact car when a roomier regular car costs the same, a Yaris hybrid surely would have been cool.

I don't consider the source in this article to be verifiable. Neither is the original source. I'm hoping Toyota will soon clarify it's true intentions.
At the same time, the article [sort of] contradicts itself, because it does say "Toyota does plan to build hybrid versions of every car it sells by 2020," which implies that Toyota will build a hybrid Yaris.

I don't know anything about this car in particular, but there are plenty of people in Japan who pay upwards of $15,000US for loaded small cars like the Fit (Jazz), Swift, Bb (Scion), Cube, and WagonR (660cc!). They could afford a bigger car, but they want a small one. I guess its because they are easier to park at your typically tight home parking spot in Japan, have a small turning circle, and are perceived as "young" and kind of "funky".

While I feel there is room in the market for a hybrid Yaris it looks like its a no go.

The Yaris is made with a variety of engines (overseas) down to a 1.0 liter gas unit. Toyota could take a smaller engine and a smaller battery pack to make the car more affordable and adjust for the smaller size of the Yaris. I can imagine great mpg from that kind of setup!

Thank you! I believe this is the first mention of a smaller battery pack and I hadn't really thought of it. I believe you're right about the smaller engine too because the HSD motors alone could propel a car this size without any help from the gas engine (except for the obvious need for it).

If a hybrid Yaris does come to market, it would basically be a "what's old is new again" sort of thing.

Toyota did offer a subcompact hybrid in the past, based on the Vitz platform (a platform on which the Yaris was developed from)..

What is that subcompact hybrid, one might ask?

    The 1st-generation Prius! :D

technically, it was a compact, not a subcompact.
