;ust have a question on toyota's inventory search system. When a car is spoken for does it still show up in the system when doing a search, or does it get taken off and only available cars are displayed?

    thanks.

I can't speak specifically for Toyota's system, but many other car manufacturers' websites display all cars coming to the dealer, whether they are spoken for or not. As the saying goes, it ain't over [sold] 'till it's over. ;)

I notice that you are in FL land of South East Toyota (SET). It has been my experience that when the dealer considers your car sold (within 3 to 4 days) it gets removed from the buyatoyota.com website. So say you look at that dealer's inventory at buyatoyota.com and you see 20 pages of Prius, that means the dealer has sold their allocation and it then pulls all available cars in the SET. If your dealer shows 3 cars there instead, then those are cars that they have or are coming but not yet spoken for.

I did some heavy duty searching to find my car, post if you have other questions and I'll do my best to help you.

thx jestoy7, well I'm looking for a particular car I see it available in the system but trying to find it going through different dealers sites in the southeast, I haven't been able to locate which dealer has it or is getting it, was thinking to find the dealer and work with them directly instead of having a dealer do a dealer trade etc. any other ways of searching the system? instead of going from dealer to dealer sites?

I have been to the web site, BuyaToyota.com, but I can't figure out how to look at a dealer's inventory. It wants my name, address, phone number, email address, etc so a salesman can call me. I just want to check the inventory to see if my car is listed yet or not.

Harajuka, if you see the VIN on the car you are looking for, what is the available date? If it is available immediately, then it is in a lot somewhere. If it is available a few days out, you might be able to have your local dealer swap for it. Let me know if you see a VIN and the avail date.

Also, what part of Fla are you? Send me the specs on the car and I'll look around and see.

Tumbleweed, the process is very time consuming. You gotta search by dealer and then by specific model (so every dealer is at least 4 searches 1222, 1225, 1227, 1229) unless you are looking for just 1225s for example.

I think the individual dealer sites inventory screens are accurate. A local dealer site shows 20 Prius's and I drove by and saw the whole front row filled with them.

I think each region's website is different. If I look up Orlando, I can see the inventory of a dealer. However, when I look up dealers in Chicago, there are only research tools and a contact form. If you look at the URL (www.setbuyatoyota.com), the website is different.

I've only been able to look at each dealer's inventory on their own website.

Every one I have emaile asking about a car on their site inventory has said that car is sold.

Thanks Joel, I think that's the problem. Here in the Northwest they won't let you search inventories. All you can do is have a salesman call you.

Yes, the method I described is only good for the SET site.

Like with any other web page, you cannot count on it being current. Having called around in Minnesota looking for a II or II, I can tell you that with the influx of buyers in the last week, the web sites of all dealers here were not in synch with their actual inventories when I called. Sometime they showed many vehicles, but when called they indicated that they were all spoken for. In fact, typically their expected August allocation (I called in July) was also all spoken for and we were looking at mid-September availability. Ultimately I found one about 2 hours out of the Twin Cities in a rural community.

So, it just depends how frequently they update the inventory on their web page. Likely not more often then daily, if that. With the frenzy over the C4C program, I'd say you have to call if you want an accurate inventory description.

Depends on the region. GST and SET have their own, and I have never seen them. So I can't speak for them.

Everywhere else, I can see all cars, whether sold or not. There is a seperate designation if they are "reserved, pre-delivered, both reserved and pre-delivered, etc" That was changed recently. If I reserved a car, it would disappear from any search by anybody except myself.
