I really wanted to buy this car but!

Not a bad choice. If it weren't for the tiny trunk I'd be considering the Civic as well. Hondas are great cars.

I don't know much about the Civic hybrid, but everybody knows that Hondas, like Toyotas, are great cars to drive and own.

My neighbor has a grayish one (Civic Hybrid) it looks very sharp with the windows tinted.

 

Good luck! Lots of car purchases come down to cost versus features. The Civic Hybrid is not a bad choice, at all. Honda is a very reliable company.

 

I guess I could buy the III or the II and pay what I am for the Civic but I won’t have the equipment I wanted.....

You say tomato, I say tomatoe. Hope you enjoy your new car. Me personally, I'm going with the Prius after owning the original Honda VX (still getting 50/65 after 16 years!) simply because the emissions will be at least 80% less.

No apology necessary. If it came as a hatchback, I'd have had one before the Gen3 Prius hit the streets. Better proven highway mpgs too, for hypermilers.

Five since 1998? I had just one, from 1986 until last month. Well, the spouse has twenty years on an Acura, that is almost the same thing.

 

I don't think you can go wrong with a Honda or Toyota. I still have my 1987 Honda Civic Hatchback I bought new

I feel that most responders are helpful ... note hurtful. There has generally been good responses to persons selecting Hondas and even the Ford Fusion.

I am unable to understand why, however, anyone would come on the Prius thread and mention the purchase of another vehicle. I can understand when friends have discussed a product, and you feel ...... "against you good advise, which I appreciate, I have decided to buy such and such."

Several contributors ask good questions, and engage in discussion ... sort of researching a product .... that is easily understood.

I certainly hope he is happy with his Honda. I have driven Honda's for many years, and have nary a complaint. My most recent was an Acura RSX ... wonderful car.

 

Toyota's weakest feature is its dealerships.

 

Someone has to settle for second best. Good luck with it.

 

to the op... i feel your pain man. dealers locally in AZ aren't moving off msrp either due to the C4C program.

 

Congrats on your car purchase, I hope that you are happpy with it and please post your driving impressions for the car and try to objectively compare to the experience you've had with the Prius (unless no experience).

It's a bad combination of events (C4C, low supply, high demand, low margins, etc..) that have caused most Prius buyers to have to really work towards buying their car.

I agree that in Toyota's distribution chain, the dealer is the weakest link.

 

Thats business guys...if they can sell the cars for MSRP why should they give discounts? Its business...not charity.

No, its not a charity, but when they prey on the hapless, with rip off add ons and bogus services (I love the "owner rewards" package), and finance shenanigans, then its just plain old greed.

The new 2010 Prius market was doing just fine until about 2 weeks ago. Buyers and sellers could negotiate a deal where both parties generally felt Ok about the deal. Then the government introduced the Cash for Clunkers program. That act by the government created an instantaneous demand for new automobiles and a sudden short supply of certain models. To add insult to injury, it looked like the program was going to run out of "funding" (I use that term very loosely) very quickly. The result was demand by frantic buyers to complete the deal ASAP. Like any other market it is supply vs. demand. I can't blame the dealers for not selling below MSRP. Anyway, after this Cash for Clunkers Craze goes away, the market should return to normal (that is unless we have another oil shortage).
