We just bought the 2010 Prius and tried to hook up our blue tooth enabled phone. It did not work. We were told we had to buy a new phone that was compatable with the new system. We went to AT&T and tried several phone until one worked. Why this problem? Anybody else with this problem?

While Bluetooth is a standard it is important to know that there is varying specifications and some devices can have compatibility issues. For example, say the one device requires Bluetooth 1.1 and the phone is Bluetooth 1.0, they may not work.

That being said, Toyota does have a website where you can select the model Toyota you have, and see what phones are known to be compatible. I am glad you were able to find one that works for you, it is good site to bookmark for the future.

    Toyota Bluetooth Phone

I personally haven't had any issues pairing phones to my 2010 Prius, although I have only tried two.

I picked up my 2010 yesterday.. and that is the first thing I did when I got my car.. I had the sales person try to hook up my phone..

We started the pairing process.. then entered the passcode...
The phone said it was an invalid passcode..

The salesperson stated.. take out the battery of the phone for 30 seconds.. and we will try it again.. I said.. why?
There is some sort of known issue with certain phones not pairing up.. and the way to resolve it. is to totally power down the phone and then try it again..

    I said ok...
Tried it again.. after the phone booted up.. and it paired up with the car no problem..

    Hope this helps..

I already spent 31k on the car. Whats another $100 for a new phone! Good advice as I will tell my sales person for future sales.

Just got my 2010 Barcelona Red Prius IV two days ago.

Hooked up my iPhone to the bluetooth. Salesman number 3 got it to work with no problems (the other two salespeople tried, but we forgot to press the "linked" available network to connect).

Works perfectly. I never thought I would use it, but I can see using it all the time now.

I have prius 2010 package III and a 2006 pkg 5 and had no problem pairing a
    LG VX-8300 .

I don't think the toyota site on bluetooth phone lookup
    is up to date.
when I searched it for a compatable phone it say's "no compatable phones in your area".

    Yeah right!!!

LG Lotus will not stay paired with the Prius. Have the solar/nav package. Will connect but then drops after less than a minute, similar to what others have written. This phone pairs perfectly with my '07 Camry Hybrid. Called Sprint to see if any workarounds----none. Went to Toyota Let's Talk and they show that LG is not compatible. Great. Anyone with a fix before I have to dump my phone? Thanks

No guarantees, but try deleting the phone, turn off car, reconnect phone, make call with it, turn off car again, then turn car on again to see if it reconnects. For unexplained reasons, this "re-boot" has sometimes worked for other people having problems.

Just paired my iPhone 3GS, my wife's iPhone 3G, and my mom's old Motorola RAZR. No issues, except that mom's old RAZR would not import the contact lists. It turn's out is the limitation of the old interpretation of the Bluetooth standard on the 3 yr old phone. But since my mom has like 5 contacts she uses 99% of the time, it was not an issue to enter it manually. Overall I'm very impressed with the ease of the programming. (I guess it helps that I'm a gadget geek) The streaming BT audio is unbelievable!! Wish my other Bimmers had this feature... :D

I don't know if this is any help to you....I also have trouble keeping my LG voyager paired. I have found that to keep it paired I have to charge the phone every night. I never did this before getting my Pri as a charge lasted me several days of regular phone/texting use-but my Prius only likes a fully charged phone, crazy I know

Mine recognizes my Iphone most of the time but occasionally it will not display the keypad on the nav screen which is very annoying because I have to dig my phone out of the consol and then navigate the menus to the keypad, other than that it works pretty good

My iPhone 3G and wife's original iPhone paired without problems. A separate issue I have seen is pitch shifting when using Bluetooth music streaming. Under certain conditions you can hear the pitch of the music move up or down while playing. Very odd and very annoying. However, this seems to be a flaw of bluetooth audio streaming in general. I have read accounts of people hearing the pitch shift with bluetooth music headphones too. Probably no fix for it.

I had some problems with my iPhone (3G) where it would get 'lost' and not be paired. A few things happened: I got iPhone 3.0.1 which fixed many issues. I also realized that plugging or unplugging my iPhone from the car charger would 'disconnect' or un-pair it from the bluetooth. Also (pre 3.0.1) if I was talking on my phone and then started the car, it wouldn't be picked up by the bluetooth and would stay 'unpaired' until I shut the car down and restarted it. On hindsight, I think that iPhone OS 3.0.1 fixed the issues that I had. It seems like they were mostly in the iPhone and less with the Prius system and I leave my iPhone plugged into the charger until I turn the car off. Now if only A2DP worked with the midrange non-nav changer radio...

I remember to that one time I was talking on my iPhone, started the car, the bluetooth picked up the call and then when I hung up, the bluetooth refused to work. Really strange things were happening. I was getting very discouraged... They have all been fixed, so far, with 3.0.1. I'd recommend as a baseline that all iPhone users get OS 3.0.1... (Now 3.1 was released 9/9/09)

My 2010 is two months old and the bluetooth worked perfectly until yesterday. On startup it connects, but shows an ongoing phone call and doesn't stop. The radio doesn't come back on. I can manually go into phone set up(on the screen) and hang up, but that isn't easy or how I want it to work. I have a Blackberry Tour, if that is an issue.
Is there any way of "re-booting" the Prius system?

Mine started experiencing the exact same problem 3 days ago with a Blackberry 8830 World Edition. I power up car, hear radio, then radio goes off. I press "Hangup phone" button on steering wheel, and radio plays.

I also tried what you suggest with no luck. Did not try taking the battery out but the Lotus says it's connected; transfers the contact list; then does not work...I'm considering selling it on ebay; have Sprint

We just bought the 2005 Prius and the owners manual says nothing about how to program a phone to the car. I want to delete the previous owner's phone and then program my LG EnV2 to the car's system.
Is there a manual or maybe someplace on this forum to go to read how to program the phone to the car?

If you didn't get that phone set up yet, send me a message or cale me at the dealership. I'll walk you through it.

The two posts with the Black Berries that had the problem with the bluetooth displaying "talking" on the screen, you need to reboot your Black Berry by pulling the battery out, reinstall and turn your phone back on. It's not the car, it's the software in your phone that encountered and error. This error is causing the bluetooth "radio" to broadcast to the car. The car only knows to accept the stream and "play it" over the speakers. PM me or call if anyone needs help with Bluetooth.
