has anyone installed this mod? does it work? does it have any negative impacts on the system?

    http://www.coastaletech.com/nav_kit.htm

Are there other companies out there that provide similar products? I read about the switch installation, but a permanent solution would be much better :).

    Thanks!!

    Hasn't shipped yet.

Nobody else produces these kinds of mods, except for IPod or Aux in adapters that have drawbacks. If there were, many would have gone that route. A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush, but so far, no bird in hand.

    He hasn't begun delivery yet.

No other such companies or products.

What makes you think a switch isn't permanant?

a switch is permanent of course, but you have to switch it to use the system. this solution looks like you will always be able to use the nav system without flipping a switch once a minute or anything.

true....that's why I've ordered one. But my switch has worked well for the last 19 months I've had it installed, and the flip and re-flip thing is, for me, only a minor annoyance....much less of one than the total lack of access while driving.

If you were not one of the first people to order Coastal's nav defeat you had better consider an alternative solution b/c he has no eta for those of us who ordered very early even at this point. It's now been something like 12 weeks. I don't think you'll have a prayer of getting one before the end of the year...if that soon.

Yea, I've been waiting for this mod to be out myself. Coastaletech seems to have problems with too much demand on too small a company. Dr Fusco, I believe he was looking for a permanent solution meaning one you don't have to switch back and forth; apparently with the do-it-yourself mod switch you have to hit the switch again once the nav system senses your motion, hopefully with the coastaletech mod this won't have to be done (those ER docs can be so literal, especially those out of the Nawlins Accident Room, long live the fistula!).

I am wondering if Coastal's solution will have any of the drawbacks that the switch does. Even if he sends 4MPH pulse simulations, the nav will get confused when GPS says you went 1 mile in the last minute, but speed sensors say you went only 400 feet. Nav will think your tires got awfully big.

Does anyone think these Costal mods will ever ship? I have the Nav mod on order but I am getting very frustrated with the delay.

Yes I think they will....I just don't know when. You're out a total of nothing, why not just wait. If a better product comes along that you can get or if you get impatient and install your own switch then you can just cancel your order with Coastal.

I think technically, the Coastaletech Nav Kit is also a switch on/off, but the conditions for on/off are:
    1) Switch on (or off, depending on how you view it) is while driving and the DEST button hit,
    2) Switch off (or on, see above) is a MAP button hit.

You should practice the patience should be a common virtue among Prius owners, with the long waits for Prius and all... I'll admit, I got a bit impatient along the way, especially nearing the 1 year mark, tho'...
    <= 360 day wait

My take on Costal Tech is this: Dave makes things that no one else is doing. No one that I know of is even trying. What I have seen has worked. He makes things I want but do not need. The last is critical. I will wait. He has a small operation and I will have this car for a while. I also be encouraging my kids to get a Prius in the near future. I think that on the whole what Dave does is good for the Prius community and I will support and wait. Yes I hope he gets his business in order and finds a way to do R&D and let others make his creations. I want him to profit on his work. In the end I go back to "These are things I want not need"

The nav mod sounds great, but will ot also allow you to make a call through Bluetooth?

No, but Coastal Dave is working on such a thing to add onto the nav kit.
