Gen III Dash Kit from SET

    Saw a Port Installed (SET) light woodgrain molded dash kit for the Gen III at my dealer yesterday. The Port price was $259 and it looked OK with the bisque interior. I suspect dark woodgrain would look better with Dark Gray and Misty Gray.

    Small photo from the SET inventory listing is attached; anyone know (i) where to buy direct, or (ii) is dark wood available?

    I've seen them all over Ebay - but none of the pictures are of a Prius - would love to see pics of an install - the $90 for burl wood seems too good to be true......... The EBay pics look very similar to our Lexus GX wood finish!

    I'd be very curios to know too. The reviews seem to be very positive for their products in general. I just am not sure what color would go best with my Blizzard white misty gray interior. I'm getting leather put in in a week, so until I see how that color looks, I'm not sure how I'd be able to choose the best color.

    titanium burl wood would look pretty good w/ Misty Grey.

    I saw that on the ebay listing the place selling them was in Brooklyn... I could find out where and stop by there but what good would it do if they didn't have one installed in a GIII to take some pics of.

    Back when I had an 01' Camaro SS I put in a carbon fiber kit. It was easy to do but honestly, after a while I wish I had just left it. The raised surface these kits provide is never as nice as having a factory wood/aluminum/carbon fiber etc interior...

    I was also thinking about the ebony zebra wood, since there's a lot of dark sections of the interior in a misty gray equipped Prius. So ya, that and the titanium burl wood are the two closest colors, it just looks like the zebra is going to be a little darker, so it will depend on if I want to go darker or lighter. How would you rank the two TP?

    mm.. that's one issue. That and they tend to give you 100 pieces when you only will use about 1/3 of those.

    Err... the Zebra wood finish appears to be the one that Ford uses.. titanium burl is similar to the black bird's eye maple that Toyota/Lexus uses that's why I have a better picture of that than the Zebra wood as I haven't been in a Ford w/ wood trim in many years.

    Toyota puts their black bird's eye maple on the light grey/white interiors. Acura tried putting something similar in their 1.7EL but it had a blue tinge to it and it was on an all-black interior. To me, that kinda makes it dull (Even though the bluish-grey wood trim looks quite good on its own). I think what I'm going for is contrast between light and dark.

    On a 2RX, they have a burl wood trim available on both black, beige and light grey interiors but note that it has the top part of the door panel in black and the bottom half in light grey so in that case, I tihnk the zebra wood trim looks better.

    In the case of Misty Grey, because we only have the door panels in contrasting colours, I'm more inclined to go for the less flashy look and go with the more subdued Titanium burl. I would think burl wood looks better with the dark grey and the light burl (as shown in the first post) works best with the bisque interior.

    No, thank you very much for your opinion. This is the kind of product that I'd very much prefer to be able to sit in a 2010 Prius with it installed, before buying. With that not being possible, anecdotal reports are the next best thing. As Paradox points out though, I'm going to have to do some more research, to see if I wouldn't just be totally annoyed by the look of it. I didn't realize it was just stick-on stuff until I read through the company's website.

    Not my cup of tea, it reminds me of how an old station wagon looked, back when I was a kid in the 60s. Takes away from the new age-cockpit/pod look that I am now accustom to. Leave it to SET to come up with another add on. I'm getting a little jaded.

    With that said, if you like it, go for it!

    i saw something like this on a used car. on one the appliqué' edges it was faded.

    so what is it going to look like in 3 years or more?

    once it's on, it's on for good.


    and can you get all the original dash panels off after installing it?

    These kits are stickers with fake wood patterns, and will look like an afterthought. Will make your car look like a bad dream from the '70s. :eek:

    I don't know about mine being anecdotal lol. I was quoting factory wood trim that I've seen. I've seen bad fake trims such as the one offered by Toyota a few years back for the Yaris. "Silver accented trim" is basically silver plastic add-ons. They looked ghastly. However, one of my local dealer has a Corolla XRS with carbon fibre trim and it matched well without looking out-of-place or an obvious add-on.

    If Misty Gray didn't have the two-tone look, yeah. The two-tone is a very sporty look and that, along with the steering wheel, doesn't go well with wood.

    It goes better with the less sporty interior of the Lexus H250h.

    The magic is "molded" versus flat decals.

    I agree the flat decals look terrible, but the molded products actually work. I had the dark wood molded meter gauge surround on my MDX with gray interior and it looked/fit great.

    The molded dash kit I saw on the Gen III with bisque interior at the dealer looked like it came from the factory (which it did not), I just think darker wood would look better with the gray interiors.

    So... I'm looking for someone who sells a real molded dash kit for the Gen III in dark wood color.

    I checked out the possibility of a dash area applique such as wood tone or carbon graphite-like.
    ID'd a good source; base version for the '10 $95 - link below. Even got a free sample sent of five finish types I thought I'd like.
    I'm not a huge fan of the standard Prius dash colors with the bisque color as I have - the grays just don't seem to mesh quite well.

    But, bottom line, adding a third color/shade would IMO be tacky.

    Another But. But others may like it very much. And that's what make the world go 'round.

    So moulded replaces the plastic piece or do they still go over it but are contoured instead of just simply covering the top and leaving the side uncovered
