How does the hood deflector mount?

    Please don't say bolts....

No bolts or screws to the body. It's 100% reversible.

What's the purpose? I assume to deflect the airflow (and potentially bugs) up and over the windshield at speed. Personally, not a fan of the appearance of these - reminds me of a 1980s van or Ford truck. And takes away from the sleek '10 front end.

And, if I may say, for those folks who are concerned about MPGs with a dirty car (friction on air flow...), wheel covers, or things as side mirrors etc - does it cause much drag?

yeah.. bugs and stuff and occasionally stone chips (from the leading edge of the hood). However, I've found most of my stone chips on the hood are actually midway up the hood (i.e. bouncing pebbles) so a hood deflector wouldn't have worked for my chips.

It'll cause a little bit of drag.

The purpose of hood deflector is to prevent the hood from stone chips. I had it on my Toyota Matrix, and it did good job. Thus, I decided to get it for my 2010 Toyota Prius. It is a cheap option that works - I got it from one Canadian dealer, and the price was $85 Canadian Dollars. I love it!

In the attached photo is my 1 week new Prius model II in Winter Gray with dealer installed tint and pin strips (for free!).
In the background is my retired commuting vehicle, a 1996 supercharged 4Runner with over 180K miles and still pulling strong like new.

Picked our new baby up tonight. I am in love. I'll try and get more pics tomorrow. It was dark when we drove by the scenic spot I picked out. Prius IV w/NAV Black exterior, misty gray interior.
