    Hello Anj:

Although I'm firmly in agreement with you regarding the more space-efficient layout of the G2, I think that overall Toyota has made a smart move (although I may personally not like it). If indeed many new owners are now considering a Prius who never would have, that is a very good thing. If Toyota was to maintain their lead as the preeminent manufacturer of hybrids, they needed to appeal to a broader audience, and it appears that they may have succeeded.

It may even be argued that this is such a crucial time in the history of hybrid vehicles that if the Prius were to fail (from a sales volume perspective), it may set development back several years for the industry as a whole, or at least limit the available choices for the next few years. Because of both the G2 and G3's successes, many manufacturers are now chasing Toyota's lead. Had the new Prius flopped, several initiatives that are now underway may have been slowed down.

So I'm very happy to see the success of the new G3, and wish well to all those who bought them. Would I buy one if I had to replace my G2 due to an accident or something? Most definitely; but only because no new G2s are available, and in my opinion there is nothing at this time that even comes close to a Prius, all things considered.

Like other G2 owners that are less than thrilled with the G3, I'm hoping that Toyota makes some interior improvements for the G4, possibly dumping or reducing the floating bridge console, and moving the shift lever back up to the dash. And also maybe cleaning up some of the exterior shortcomings of the G3.

Being easy is just fine (especially on this Forum). Just so you weren't 'easy' and paid $3,000 over MSRP for your ride....

Thanks for your insight. I do see myself, initially not a fan of some particular '10 designs -even not lovin' the console - over time, actually liking most things. MOST things - not EVERYthing. But not an iota of buyer's remorse - love 98% of the Prius.

Thanks for succinctly stating the pros and cons of this issue.

My Toyota dealer told me that the new interior has cost him a few sales from Gen II owners. He is a bit steamed at the lack of a backup camera unless you buy the NAV. (He is correct on this, IMHO).

I think they had to make it to a profitable price point, so trade offs were made so Toyota can still make a profit with the Gen III.

One item that I thought was just plain cheap is the fact that all the spoilers on the Gen III are unpainted black.

So, it's "horses for courses" . There is still much to like about the Gen III.

I respectfully disagree. The Lexus Hybrid 250h has the shifting location that is similar to the Toyota Prius II. I've owned the Prius II for four wonderful years. Today, I got into the seat of my Prius III and I like the new design. Toyota has done a good job with the Interior with the 2010 Prius.

Glad you are most happy with your new Gen III :)

I take it you have the Nav with the backup camera. The dealer's point was that you have to spend ( a lot) extra to get it, and that is still valid.

As I stated before, there is much to like about the Gen III. I wish my 09 Touring had the vertical seat adjust and the telescoping steering wheel.

I prefer the Gen II MFD, and am really happy with the Touring #6 package. Count me as a non fan of the center console on the Gen III.

I just hope that Toyota re-thinks the option package setup, so an important safety feature like the camera is obtained for a reasonable price.

Yes, I do agree with you concerning the backup camera. Regretfully, it is an option only in the higher end models of the Gen III. But, with the shifting location not on the dashboard, it doesn't feel like an appliance.
However, I do hear you and fully respect your view.

I readily admit that I have not read all the post.

In 2001 I purchased a Toyota Highlander. There was loud ... and sustained, criticism over the lack of a console between the seats. People wanted a console, and they tried consoles from the Japanese model ... didn't work too well. Aftermarket consoles were even less desirable. For years we lived with a small plastic case that sat between our seats, and held all the items one would store there.

I find the G3 Prius console to be just about "right." I like the design (aesthetics), I like the open space, I like the cup holders, and I like the storage space.

With 3000 miles on my G3, I have become accustomed to the dash ... and I really like it. I remember one post complained that he wanted two round dials ... like in his other car. Some complain about the "shifter" (for want of a better word). I find it falls right under my hand. It not a "gear shift" at all. Putting it on the stearing wheel column, as some have suggested, would just be stupid, IMO.

I fear that too many do not understand that the Prius is a unique vehicle that has innovations not found on conventional cars ... not only the hybrid system, but the fact that the transmission is a CVT; electric A/C compressor; no conventional ICE starter, and on and on. Oh, the "shifter" is electrically connected .... not by a mechanical linkage as used in most vehicles.

My advise .... learn how to drive the Prius; do not be so quick to question the innovations, rather learn why they were designed the way they were, and appreciate the genius in the design; I am absolutely convinced that the G3 will deliver many years of dependable, economical and comfortable transportation, if driven correctly, and maintained properly. What more could we ask for?

I find the center consul to be a great place for my purse and sometimes my work badge. put something there then you will like it.

Did she try raising the seat??? I raised mine up and now I think it is too high. I have to remember to bring it down today. I'm not sure what stuff your wife has that would not work in the '10. I am coming from a Corolla and have found the storage space to be adequate.

I only posted this in response to some people's requests that the threads be combined which, in fact, were the FIRST comments to be off topic and belonging in another section. If you notice, yours is the only to which I've responded since responding to others would not have kept to the theme of the thread.

Did she notice that the driver seat has a control to raise and lower it? It goes quite high. Our roommate is only 5' and she raised it to be comfortable and there was still height left for the seat to rise. I would image this would work well even if the driver was just 4'6". Maybe under that it's a problem, but then you qualify as handicapped and can get customized seats, no?

    Thank you.

I wonder how many people would complain if the joystick was kept in the Gen II position.
