Move the rearview mirror?

Have you considered lowering the seat a bit? It is adjustable for height.

 

Turn it upsidedown. This will give you about 3/4" more room.

 

I agree... I am not tall but like to sit up high and that darn thing is right in my line of sight. I am hoping I just get use to it there. Although I can't see why someone couldn't take it off and move it up higher...?

Like bestmapman said, try seeing if you can rotate the mirror upside-down. This was a trick commonly used in the 2nd gen Prius that worked even with the homelink button/auto-dim mirror. Let us know if it works for the 3rd gen Prius.

 

Looking at my mirror, I noticed that the plastic cover (the one convering the wire) is adjustable. That means you should be able to pop the mirror off, reglue it higher, and the plastic housing material will still fit like stock.

 

On the ii the mirror will lift/rise up about 1.5", did not know this till I try to turn in over, it was tight bushed hard and it went up. Now it dose not need to be upside down cool.

 

I was looking at that today before reading your thread. Hope you found a way to do this without breaking the glass! Let us know if you did.

 

Eyes down 1/3 on the glass is perfect. I would get that seat down until your eyes are down 1/3 from the top of the glass. That way you can adjust your mirror and see pebbles in the road as easily as signs overhead.

Here's my inverted Homelink rear-view mirror in my 2009 -



Look how close that is to the top of windshield. Very close. I think you see 2" gap between top of mirror and top of windshield in your car.

In the Gen2, inverting helps bring the mirror up some amount (~ .5")

Another reported the Gen3 Homelink mirror is not 'invertable' (new word?)

I'm going to brag a bit - couple months ago, I said I thought the Gen3 rear view mirror was mounted farther down the windshield than it ought to be.

I'm 6'2.5" tall - long legs, fairly long torso, long neck, I'm tall.

Sitting in the Gen3 with non-Homelink mirror and seat height almost all way down gives just enough visibility to see roof of cars under the mirror. I still think the mirror ought to be mounted a little farther up the glass. I don't like to recline the seatback to get lower because for me, that blows the reach to the steering wheel (makes reach too far).

Some will say - the mirror is double jointed - I know that, that's easy.

The thing is, the windshield is very swept (raked) back in the Prius, therefore vertical visibility is a bit challenging for very tall people.

Toyota ought to consider mounting the rearview mirror a little higher up the windshiled. I don't think that would hurt anything.

 

I owned a 2006 and did the turn it upside down trick for awhile then just had the mirror glued higher it was worth it .
Now I'm faced with the same problem again (you think Toyota would listen to us already ) I have tried till I've almost pulled the mirror off trying to make it work turning it upside down.
I can not get it to work that way .All I can see is the back seat. No higher .How are you folks doing this ??
Has anyone with the homelink re glued a new higher holder ?? If so how difficult .What about the wirer's?
I really need to get this fixed I almost went off the road when someone with the new bright white lights hit my mirror the other night . I was blinded no joke .So if anyone has a hint as how to fix this I would really like to know PLEASE!.

 

I have had it happen twice now where I was coming up to a 90 degree right hand turn and an oncoming car matched my speed and perfectly hid behind the mirror. I freaked me out a little when the other car popped out from behind the mirror as I entered the corner. If the mirror were mounted a little higher (or i was shorter) it wouldn't be a problem.

I now find myself ducking my head to look under the mirror. If I lean my seat back a little it resolves itself but then it is uncomfortable reaching the wheel.

I flipped it over when I read it might help shortly after I bought the car. It does not work on a Gen III. The window will flip over very easily. Once it’s flipped over you can not adjust it to see out the back window.

I am thinking about taking it off an moving the sensor from the bottom to the top. It will fix the issue. I am surprised that Toyota engineered it this way.

 

Has anyone out there raised the mirror on the 2010 ?
I freaked out with the last night drive and the new blue white lights .Gosh they are BRIGHT
Does anyone know if I can just glue a new holder (or what ever it's called) for the mirror higher?

 

I wouldn't try prying the mirror off the glass unless you have skills and probably some type of adheasive removing solvent. Also, the glass probably has a specific patch designed to receive the glued on mirror.

 

i wasn't going to pry anything off the glass I was just going to add another holder to the windshield for the rearview mirror
This was done on the Gen 2 models and it solved the dimming problem then .
