    Thanks for the link Greyskye.
It would be great if you can tell us later how it goes.

No problem - don't hold your breath waiting for my report though. When I say I'll be doing that 'soon', that's 'soon' in Greyskye time - meaning it's on the list to do this year, when time and finances align.

Allow me to turn this around tho, all in fun of course. :)

On my prius, I'd love to be able to turn the vents up to full when it's a nice day out and I don't need the A/C. On my old car, I'd just twist the selector to vent, and hit the fan to max. Total time, 3 seconds.

On the prius I'd take my eyes off the road.
Figure out which glyph represents airflow (3 seconds).
Shut off the Auto (2 seconds)
Swerve around other cars because I'm staring at damn fisher price interface (15 seconds, one minor heart attack).
    Select Max airflow (2 seconds).
Repeatedly press TEMP DOWN to get temperature to max cold (forever and a day).
Override the system if it turned auto back on (who the hell knows if it did or not).
Give finger to other drivers who are telling me to get my head out of various orafices, or the the MF MFD as it should be called... priceless.

I'll be happy to trade my '04 for a Diesel plug-in hybrid from Toyota. Should be in about 2008.

You might consider dropping the air pressure in your tires if you spend a lot of time on bumpy roads. This won't give you the Lincoln's ride, and will cut into your fuel economy somewhat, but it might help you keep your bladder longer.

I would trade my Prius for a plug in Prius if I could afford such, or a diesel hybrid I could run on biodiesel. Right now, I'm with the folks who can't abide having a car in which the ICE runs continuously.

DaveinOlyWA: There is a difference between sound quality and volume. The JBL system in the Prius sounds like there is a layer of gyprock covering the speakers. It doesn't give a clean sound - the treble is crap, the bass non-exstant & the midrange is also crap at any volume. The base stock Pioneer system in my ES300 is infinitely better. I just wish I had waited until the Nakamichi system became available....now, THAT'S a killer sound system! I am going to try disconnecting the front centre speaker tomorrow, see if that helps a bit...

When is the GS450h supposed to come out? I'm thinking about getting one of those...with the Mark Levinson!

im sure you have a point. i went from a Ford F-150 to my Prius and in that truck, i cranked the stereo because i quickly tired of hearing the vibrating, rattling, buzzy sound of its interior.

The Prius being so much quieter has obviously biased my opinion because of the extreme lack of a quality reference point.

but its all opinion and im sure that there are many on both sides of this issue. considering all the things that Toyota did right by the Prius, i find it very hard to believe that anyone would trade their Prius in because the replaceable stereo was not up to their listening standards.

that is all i am trying to say. this post was not "what would i change if i could about my Prius" there is a post on that subject here.

"replaceable" really :D , with what? I thought it was integrated into the MFD and that replacing it would lose the controls on the steering wheel, MFD and look out of place because of the dash design?

in most cars ive seen the radio does play a part in the sound quality but its the amps and the speakers that seem to affect it the most.

most audiphiles ive known rarely if ever bought a car without a stereo.they simply added an amp and filled the back seat with speakers.

I'm going to sound like one of our gui designers here... but I guess even they have a point sometimes. The head unit on the Prius is... ugh. I've never seen a stereo where you can't just look down and see what station is playing. Sure, I can toggle from the Map over to audio, but then I have to actually look and hit the button and whatnot. It'd be great if the station/volume infobar could remain at the top of the screen(I saw that idea in a thread last year, and whoever came up with that idea is a genius).. but alas, not on our MF MFD!

I usually just adjust what ever I need from the steering wheel. So if I need to know what station, I push up one station and then back. That will display it for a moment.

I would rather see a standard stereo system with adapters that allow for plug and play. Can you imagine a system where you just pull it out, and plug in the new one with speakers, amps, head units and steering control all being standardized? 8)

That's usually what I do as well, but it's still a bit of a usability nightmare. Like the Prius gets RFD information on songs, but really does nothing with it. Even on GM cars, which aren't exactly paragons of usability, the station and RFD information is displayed without you having to change the station (no really)...

It's like Toyota came up with all of these cool features and ideas, and then buried them in the "MF MFD in the Realm of Plastic Fantastic".

the info on the station is available on the audio screen.

that banner telling you what the station is covers up the temp and i really dont want to see it every time i touch the volume controls. i usually can tell by the content what station i am on anyways

The worst thing is having RDS, then not having it available while in motion "For safety, no message giving while driving". Kinda annoying. I wanna know the title NOW esp. if you're on the freeway, there's no place to stop.

Even more annoying when you realize the message is sometimes given in where it usually shows the call letters (I think) up in the upper left, but it's given there a word at a time. Now, for safety, which is worse? Forcing someone to watch a word at a time and keep hitting audio when the screen flips back to nav, or just showing the song title with a proper interface? :)

Can't you go to the Menu screen and set the MFD to not toggle?

Yeah, but then what's the point of using the nav system? I kinda use it a bit, and I like seeing the turns and whatnot coming up. What I would really like, and again whoever thought of this first is a genius, I'm just echoing it, is a strip at the top that displays the station information/RFD information.

    Or a real display.

    I'd settle for either. :)
