 That's crazy! Good for you for not putting money down w/o the guarantee of a refund.

No way would I ever buy a "demo car" unless they took $2,000 or more off the price. I realize that technically it isn't a used car, but for all practical purposes, it may as well be. Think about how many people have been getting in and out of that car. (probably a thousand plus people) And worse yet, think about how it's been driven during test drives...all at a time when the car should be broken in properly (which is not how people test drive a car).

I recently test drove a 2010 Subaru Outback that had 10 miles on it, and the salesman kept encouraging me to drive the car harder and harder. By the time the test drive was through, I had "tested" the antilock brake system 3 times, driven it through 6 inches of loose sand, and drove it hard on very bumpy dirt roads. And I was probably the first of many.

If you're going to buy a new car, you need to take delivery of a new car.

Well, I have a 2010 Prius sitting in my garage tonight.

I checked around online Sunday morning at more dealers, and found one I hadn't seen any in stock at before, said they had two IIIs, one blue, one red, no packages. About 90 minutes away. I thought I would drive out and look in the afternoon to see if they were really there. I got there, and even though the dealer was not offically open, they had some "sales assistants" on the lot asking people what they are looking for, if they would like follow up phone calls or emails, very nice touch IMO. I said sure, but they only had the red on the lot, she wasn't sure if the blue was still there or what was going on.

Monday morning, I get calls from their internet guys, they say yes, the red is available, but so is the blue, but it is still on the truck but not at the dealer yet, and he also said that they have been selling them above MSRP, but it was the last day of the month, and it wouldn't be a waste of time to come over. I said I would be over in the afternoon. When I get there, the red was sold!!! While we were driving over I guess. But he told me the blue hit their system 4 days ago and should be there by today, or Tuesday at the latest. As we are talking about what we were willing to do on price, a truck pulls up and has the blue on it.

To wrap it up, they sold at MSRP, and basically gave us what the other dealer was going to do (4000 trade, and they through in the floor mats for free, full tank of gas). I know its not really any better than my first offer, but I just balked at paying extra for the IV vs. III, and window tint and a rear bumper protector..and dealing with the creepy sales manager. After the coments on this thread, I decieded to bite the bullet and say goodbye to my Passat. Yes, I could have sold it myself, but would have had to fix several little things, given alot of my time and probably had to deal with the local VW dealer, and the more I looked closely at it, the more I saw wrong with it, it was time to move on.....

So count me in, 2010 Prius, Blue Ribbon Metallic, dark grey interior......The wife says blue was pretty much her favorite all along, and this is the only one I've see available around here except in a II...

HOORAY! I am glad for you. Trust me I traded a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid in with 36K miles on it, for my 2010 Prius. The Honda was great to me, not a problem ever, but the ride and seats...just always annoyed me. I banged my head every time getting in and out of it too...

So I traded mine as well, didn't want to deal with the Private Sell aspect, been there done that...and it's nerve racking for sure.

I got good just under excellent, not exactly what I wanted but I wanted the Prius so bad and they sold it at sticker, and threw in Mats Front, Rear and Hatch area. Plus will give me 1/2 off my Toyota remote start....so I couldn't be happier. I am glad I did it and love the car and have had it almost 10 days. I am sure you will be glad you did it too...

Good Luck! Happy Motoring with that new Prius
