The fob will survive at least one round in a Whirlpool Duet front loader, and come out spotless. No need to run it through the dryer. :washing:

I finally made it. I read the entire thread 37 pages (ok the last page had to post). This is what I discovered a week ago:
You have to wait until night to find this. When you get close enough to the car for smart keys to be detected… lights inside are magically turned on. I tried with to key and nothing append.

FYI - for this to happen, the doors must be locked. Then, the fob with you, the interior lights will illuminate when you get within a few feet of the car.

This happens on my Gen 2 as well.

I took mine apart after it's washing and dried it out with a hair drier before I used it. Good to know I didn't need the drying. I bet there have been millions that have gone through the washing machine.

The only other time I've done it was with a set of keys and remote on a key ring in 2003; my Honda Pilot remote came out clean too, and that machine was a top-loader that used a lot more water. :p

Don't know if this has been posted here yet (with 350+ posts...).

On the V with LED headlamps - when the brights are turned on, the 'low beam' LEDs stay on. If I recall, on "normal" cars, the low beams go out when the high beams are turned on.

And cruise control reportedly doesn't work below 25mph, which makes it more difficult to maintain the car in EV. Couldn't they have at least increased the maximum speed for EV to about 30mph?

That would be nice but the range would be a lot less with the extra 5mph on top. With practice you can keep the ICE from coming on above 25 mph depending on the terrain.

If you set the cruise at 28 mph you can slow it down to 23 mph before it shuts off.

Turns out the hatch button unlock behavior is a customizable feature. Was playing around in Techstream (dealer programming tool) today and noticed that it can be set for short press to unlock and long press to open or one press to unlock and two presses to open. Very good to know!

Ahh, but you cannot! That is the kill-shot for running with parking lights on during the daytime. The Display instantly goes down to what looks like 1/4 brightness and the light level adjuster will only top out at this new lower level. It is VERY hard to read the display during the day with the parking or main headlights on because of this.
I'm sure it is programmable... but I don't see a work-around as of now. Does anyone have an idea of how to get the display brighter with the lights on?

    Thanks!
    Bob :D

Sure you can turn them on and have full brightness on display. Just turn the display light control rotary switch past the first stop. Bingo full bright on dash/display lights

This obscure fact needs to go in another sticky thread of day-to-day operating knowledge, since there have been so many posts about it. :p

I believe it's a GM thing. All Toyotas with dual beams keep the low beam on. Cars with dual-filament bulbs (e.g. the 2nd Gen Prius) obviously don't have low beams because the shutter is moved to put the headlight in high beam.

I once went diving in a quarry and left my keys (with Jeep remote) tucked into my wetsuit. I went down to 60' with it and when I came up and found out what I had done (I thought I'd lost my keys until I started taking off the wetsuit :), I took it apart and let it dry in the sun and it was fine. *phew*

Uh, oh. I keep a trash bag lining the driver's side door and my puppy's working vest and leash in the passenger side door. Guess I'd better contact Toyota...:phone:

Wow, that is very good to know! Now I need to decide if it's worth the hassle of going to my dealer and trying to get him to change it (or if they'll even know/admit that it can be reprogrammed).

It's a shame that the designers go through the trouble to add options like this to the car, but it's kept a secret from the owners, probably because they don't want to have to document it all, or maybe so we won't be bothering the dealers with so many customizations.

And under the passenger seat too. It has showed up here before: http://priuschat.com/forums/newbie-forum/59966-seat-vent.html Now why do you suppose Toyota built dual tubes into them? Would someone who has a small accomplice see whether hot comes out of one and cold comes out of the other, please?

Umm... that's the rear seat heat ducts. They've been standard since... the 80s? 90s? except on certain american manufacturers but now it's standard on all cars.

Why two ducts? My guess is one comes from the centre left vent and one from the outboard vent.
