I am proud to say that I have posted for many years to the Turbo Diesel Register and before that to Ram Truck Mail List. I am also a member of many GTO sites as I have a restored 72 GTO. I am now reviewing my past love for power. Do you think I'll be absolved of my past muscle involvment by buying a green car? Probably not, but I might break even.

I really appreciate the fact that popoff and others stick up for me and this site, and you can get away with saying many of the things I think but dare not say, since I have to bite my tongue a bit because I am representing my company here. However, I do agree that post was a bit harsh, although I think its mainly the little profanity Emoticon that puts it over the top. Personally, I think that one should be removed from the list. ( EDIT: Since the Emoticon has since been removed from the aforementioned post, you may disregard that last comment. I figured I should add this or anyone that hadn't previously read it would have no idea what I was talking about )

I never would have suggested to anyone that they try to price match us with another dealer...what kind of idiot would that make me, to suggest that someone go elsewhere to purchase? What I would have said was something along the lines of keeping us anonymous if/when you go back to talk to your dealer. I do have to be honest with myself, since I only sell about half of the people that email me for quotes, I know a large number of people do go back to their dealers and try to renegotiate. But by doing that, you will make the dealer angry. Every dollar you save is a dollar out of their pocket, and if you give them our name it gives them a place to direct that anger. I am not here to try and steal business from other dealers, although thats how they will look at it if people tell them about the deal being offered here. All I am trying to do is get a little extra business by tapping into the internet market, there are PLENTY of people out there that simply turned down the plans at the time they purchased the car due to the high asking price of the dealer. For anyone that does decide to cancel an existing plan (not that I am suggesting that anyone do that)....the best way to handle it is to simply say you changed your mind. No more reason is needed.

Plus, don't forget a percentage of each sale generated by Priuschat goes back to this website to help keep it up and running.

Popoff made a valid point. He beat me to it.

In addition, when it comes to judging Troy's credibility vs. that of Paul R. Haller, Troy wins by a longshot.

I may be like others that have gotten a price from Troy and have not purchased yet because I have only 2000 miles on the car. But I am definitely going to purchase from Troy and the only reason I have not as yet done so is because he was honest enought to tell me he saw no reason the offer was going away anytime soon. My dealer does not know anything about Troy but offerred me a great deal. Only thing is, it carried a $50 deductible.

    Hey Troy,

Thanks again for earlier. As I noted in an earlier post, my dealer told me that if I wanted the 7/100,000, I absolutely HAD to take it at the signing. You directed me to the Toyota website where it clearly states:

" Toyota Extra Care new vehicle protection plans can be purchased at any time while your vehicle:

    # Is less than three years old1
    # Has fewer than 36,000 total miles"

I called my dealer with this info yesterday and tore into him pretty good. During the signing he flat out lied, and that disgusts me beyond belief. I told him I'd be coming in today to cancel the warranty. When I went in today he looked me in the eye MAYBE once. He looked like a dog that took a dump on the living room floor.

When I spoke to you, you thought the only way I would get the money back would be a credit against the principal, as the warranty was folded into the financing. As it happens, the dealer gave me that option, or the option of a check for the full amount. I picked the the check, which works for me. I'm guessing it works for him too, so he doesn't have to do all kinds of paperwork to redo the financing.

    Regards,
    -hab

    Troy-

I am ready to purchase this warranty- I sent an email on Sunday (6/12/05) to the email address listed, but no reply- I am guessing becasue I mentioned that I already purchased the warranty and you do not want me mentioning the site and your name to the dealer, which I understand and, after reading all this info here, have not done and would not do.

So will I please be allowed to purchase this warranty?

    Thx,
    biglami

    Biglami,

I sent you a reply on Monday. I will resend it, but you may want to also check your spam filtering and make sure it didn't get caught up there.

It was spam filtering- that spam block needs to recognize an $1100 savings when it is on its way to my inbox. Thx Troy- I sent the contract and a signed letter with my mileage out in today's mail. My phone # is in the paperwork so that we can go through my credit card when you receive the letter.

    Thx again,

I just bought a brand new Prius on June 16, 2005. The salesman high pressured me into taking this extended contract, they quoted me $2200 at first, :cussing: then it dropped to $1600, and I finally paid $1200 for it. Can I cancel it and get my contract through this Prius chat? I hate paying to much and paying sticker really hurt when they gave me dirt for my Nissan SUV I traded in on my Prius. Please refer to the message from TOG higher up on this page. As Troy says, all you need do is tell them you changed your mind. NO explanation is necessary or required.

After reading about the Extended Warranty Scam, I am cancelling the policy I bought for $1495 from the dealer and sometime in the next three years, buy it for $985.

    Thanks, Guys

Judyb - Thanks for your post.

I don't like to think of the extended warranty as a scam. Most consumer groups do not recommend them as a good deal. The warranties that you read about on this site are discussed at their retail price and are not a great deal. Conventional wisdom suggests that an extended warranty on a Prius is an intelligent insurance policy for a number of reasons, none of which relate to the predicted reliability of the car. I like to think of the extended warranty offered by Troy as a priviledge extended to members of this group. It is a real deal and enhances the purchase of what I consider to be the best, most sensible automobile developed to this point. I don't want to play semantics here, it's just that the Finance guys are mostly nice guys just doing their jobs and what we have here is the opportunity to buy through Troy, for whatever reason, a real deal. Like Troy's offer, this site also enhances our ownership of a Prius and I am sure you will continue to glean enjoyable and valuable information by your participation.

It seems a few people are considering waiting until their 3/36K warranty is near its expiration. And while its fine if you want to do that, something to remember is that the Toyota Extra Care plans start retro back to the in-service date, and mile 0 regardless of when its purchased. So there is no gain in coverage by waiting, and your taking a risk of price increases over the next 3 years.

I have also had a few people that forgot and waited until it was too late. Once the 3 years has gone by you can't purchase them. I had someone only over by a week, I called everyone I could think of at Toyota trying to get an exception and they wouldn't do it.

Another reason to buy sooner rather than later is that the extra care plan has several benefits which are over and above the basic 3/36k warranty and kick in immediately. These include towing expense, substitute transportation expense, and if over 150 miles from home, food and lodging expense when overnight repairs are required.

I also want to thank Troy for his prompt courteous manner in helping me purchase this coverage. Thanks Troy.

While I have already mailed a message to Troy for a quote, I am wondering if one is eligible for the warranty if one gets into an accident?

I would imagine that’s a very good reason to not wait till 36K/3yr limit.

Any one knows the answer? I am sure Troy does :).

Yes, you are still eligible even if the car has been in an accident, so long as the car wasn't totaled. Per the Toyota Extra Care application, "Salvaged, scrap, or dismantled vehicles as defined by state law" would cause an existing contract to be terminated, or make it ineligible for purchasing a new plan.

Also, and this is probably pretty obvious, any failures directly related to an accident wouldn't be covered.

    Tony,

May be I did scare you with that! No I have had no accident on either of the Priuses we own. I was just trying to give another incentive for folks to consider the extended warrantee.

So go ahead and mail me that quote! I am still waiting for it....

    Take care!

I ordered both the warranty and the prepaid plan from Troy -- it was quick and easy, and now I'm going to do it again for our second 2005!

Re: Discounted Toyota Prius Extended Warranty /Service Contr

I just wanted to chime in supporting Troy and this deal. My wife and I just received the paperwork from Troy for the Platinum 7/100,000 warranty and we saved about $700 (or thereabouts) off the offer made by the dealer (which was supposed to be a special "cost" deal he was offering to us, valid only for a few days after we picked up the car - glad we discovered PriusChat before going any further with him). Troy was very helpful with communications via e-mail and closed the deal with a quick call over the phone.

    Thanks, Troy.
