We go from humidity to ice and snow stuck in the wheels. Pick your poison.

I've heard the squeaking too. My dealership service guy said it's the brakes as they get residue, such as rust when the car sits and the squeaking is getting rid of the residues. He called it "normal" but checked the brakes and said they were fine. I've notice that when you begin to roll (after the car has been parked a while) and hear it that as soon as you apply the brakes it seems to go away.

Yep, you got it. Many of us are hearing the same under the same conditions as you. I was relieved to know that I was not the only one with this problem, but I still can't stand the squeaking sound of my new, $27,000 car!!
    Cripes!

That's what I'm griping about too. I drive the car everyday... and yes, I live in SoCal, so humidity does not play a factor. Like Hans said, the "scrub" technique seems to work okay for the moment but then it's like nails on the chalkboard again the next time I start it... Were this an old car or even a used car, okay, I would accept that. But for a $30K new car???? Maybe this will push me to get my windows tinted so I don't have to return stares of people wondering why a brand new car has brakes that sound like a parrot on crack...:(

glad to see this post, I am from San Diego and I too am experiencing this. I started to notice it like 3 weeks ago. Car only has 1,800 miles. I just thought in time, it would go away, argggghhh! oh and by the way, I think it's coming from the rear wheels.

Could car washes or getting the brakes wet be a factor in the disc brake squeal by chance?

And so, maybe it's time to raise a stink with Toyota U.S.A.? Does ANYONE on this forum have Toyota's ear? I would think that they MUST have heard about this problem by now! I mean, this problem seems to persist across all models and geographical regions. Surely there must be a recall or factory fix in the works, no?

P.S. My dealer, Carmax in Laurel M.D., is still CLUELESS! Just what in the F is the NEXT step for us here:confused::(?

Everyone on this forum has Toyota's ear. Toyota staffers follow these postings quite closely.

OK, enough is enough already. If you are really serious about this nagging problem then let's all take this to the next logical step. Since most of our respective local Toyota dealers can't assist on this squeaking problem, lets all try this:

Also, who exactly are these staffers? And can we send email directly to them -- directing them to this particular forum thread? Surely they are busy and may not be aware of this particular problem that is affecting so many new cars ...

I'd love to see proof. That'll be great to have. Otherwise please don't post useless assumptions.

Why would you suggest that this is a useless assumption? Your tone sounds unnecessarily confrontational.

Several of us are personally acquainted with the members of Prius Team, who are the key players of Toyota Marketing USA. We exchange information on a regular basis. A few are even Facebook friends. Would you like to know about their latest vacation plans? Perhaps you would like to see photos of us together in Detroit?

PriusChat is a great resource for Prius owners, but it is also a great resource for Toyota. They get to be a fly on the wall and listen to what we say. They don't often respond, as that would skew the information, but they do listen.

if you do a google search for 'rusted brake rotors' and you will see that this is NOT a defect. I mean you see that this question has been asked hundreds of other times.

I personally don't think it's a defect at all. I DO, however, think that Toyota needs to stop and think about what it is with the 2010 Prius that is causing this annoying problem to their $25,000+ Flagship Hybrids! I mean, I'm driving all over the Washington D.C. area and I'm passing new and older cars alike ... and the only poor sap on the road with squeaking wheels is ME! Did the Gen I or Gen IIs have this issue?

I'm thinking there is a common problem here that Toyota needs to address. It's just to queer that all these 2010s are having the same problem -- from all across the U.S. no less!
