I'm excited to see the Altima Hybrid next year. I know this will be a 2007 model appearing in 2006, but has anybody heard what month it is scheduled to appear?

The prototype pics look like the same old body style. Are they not going to have a new updated body style by the 2007 model?

I've heard 40 mpg average rumors, but nothing definitive. Does anybody know anything more about what kind of mpg to expect?

    MSRP?

Even though prototypes are on this generation, Nissan would be wise to add it to the new redesigned Altima, that is, unless they want to extend the lifecycle of the current Altima and given the current competition from Honda and Toyota, I doubt they will. Since it's using mostly Toyota technology, expect a full hybrid complete with CVT. If mated to their VQ35 engine, it'll produce quite a bit of horsepower to compete with the Accord. Given it's full hybrid nature, mid thirties same reasonable. If they decide to put it in their 4 cylinder, that'll be nice. V6 power and probably 40mpg.

Note, Danny posted it on Priuschat and HybridScoop (originally from Toyota Nation) spyshots of the 2007 Camry/Camry hybrid

Funny you should ask - I drive an Altima and am on Altima boards a lot :)

Per what Nissan has announced - the hybrid will have a 2.5 engine, I have not heard a single thing of V6 being in there. This is good news. The 2.5 in my Altima gives me 29 MPG as it is now, tank after tank, 25 mile commute, about 50:50 hwy:city driving and is plenty powerful for me.

I could not imagine that they would put hybrid stuff into current body style. WHile I still think it looks a lot better than most on the road, it is due for a redesign, with Camry and Accord getting the same - I am sure Nissan will do it too.

On the looks of the 2007 (which is supposed to be introduced in 2006) - there are few speculations. It seems like it will have a CVT though.

Some speculate that Nissan Teana might be the body style of the redesigned Altima.

Here is an interesting thread from someone that claims he was pulled into Nissan customer research 2-day session and was showed the new Altima, he did his best to describe it:

The Teana is a sweeet looking car. Would love to have it over. Hmm, n/m. Just looked at that nissanclub thread. The guy said it was not the Teana =(. Maybe the next Maxima will be that.
