My Siberian Husky, about 65 pounds, fits nicely in the back area. When I raise the hatch he's ready to go, lol. I close the hatch carefully to make sure he's out of the way, and keep a couple of blankets handy to protect the inside of the car. If a dog has ridden without problems in other vehicles, you shouldn't expect any change in a Prius.

I wonder if one of these vertical dog barriers for cars would work on the Gen III:

Dog & Pet Barriers / Travel Accessories

They didn't work on the Gen II because the hatch hinge was too far forward so you couldn't mount the poles straight up. But I think the Gen III hatch hinge is further back, so maybe there's enough roof to mount the poles.

We have two Labradors, they would not be happy in the hatch part, I'm thinking a hyper GSD, may not be either. Our Labs sleep the minute we back out of the driveway. What works great to protect the seats are Men's T-Shirts. I slip them on the back seats before folding them down, and also slip them on the front seats, to protect the backs. By having the seats down, it raises the height, so perhaps there is less area to scratch on the doors, can't recall exactly. T-shirts work great. We then lay a blanket down over the top of the folded seats. Works great.

Thanks so much for that experiment. it was very helpful. I think my dog will fit in there if your greyhound does.
