Has anyone else had this problem? A few days ago, when I approached the car with the fob, the car didn't automatically unlock right away, though it did after a few seconds. Two days ago when I approached the car, the fob didn't work for about five minutes before it mysteriously kicked in and the car unlocked.

This morning, after I'd left the car unlocked to avoid that problem, the car wouldn't start until I inserted the fob into the ignition, which I've never had to do. Is it as simple as the battery in the fob dying, or is something else going on? I have a 2005 Prius.

Any suggestions or insight would be appreciated.

Yes, it seems that the battery in the fob needs to be replaced.

I believe others have stated that 4 years is about normal FOB battery life, so it's a very good chance you need to replace yours. There are several good discussions with Pics showing the steps. Use the search feature to find them.
