so ive flopped back and forth and i think in have my solution. im pretty sure i wanna keep my stock system as is, just at the risk of messing things up. ive heard adding a sub can detract from the stock shortcomings. i was considering a sub/amp combo in the rear but the idea of an underseat install is starting to appeal to me. im considering these, as they are all i can find. not sure if they'll fit...but i think they will. ideally should i, for ease of install wherever i go, tap the front cig lighter power? since it is always on and i never use the front one. and where should i tap my audio? thoughts?

I'm looking for the same info on the Base audio system, but for a trunk install instead of pass seat. I found a lot of old threads that reference attached pictures that are described as showing what we would need to know, but alas all of these pictures are missing! I will let you know what I discover, please do the same.

Hey guys what is under the seats? There is a large heat sink under the passenger seat with a box around it. I figured someone would have installed some Amps under the seat, but I am coming up blank. I read somewhere that the box under the drivers side is the DVD unit for nav system, but that doesn't explain the passenger side one. I didn't know if it was the factory JBL amp or something as that was mentioned to, but I would like to know for sure just what I am messing about with.

edit: I found this it answers some of my questions and maybe yours

There are existing threads on under seat self-powered subs being used (and at least one where it was placed in the back). I believe most of these self-powered units are designed with speaker-level inputs, since the manufacturers know they will most likely be added to a stock system. You can tap the wiring to the front speakers behind the kick panels. Here's a link to a .pdf telling how to replace the rear door speakers -what does that have to do with this? Simple! He includes a wiring diagram telling us what the colors are for the speaker wires that you will need to tap! Plus he's a PC poster!
