Poll: How many miles do you drive per year?

I drive about 22,000 miles per year (based on the Ford Escort 200,000 miles in 9 years).

I recieved the Prius April 2, and I have a little over 4000 miles on it. That includes one week in May when I went out of town, and did not drive it. So, I have averaged 2000 per month, projects to 24,000 per year.

We plan to use the Prius for long drives on the weekends, and the Caravan for short trips. The logic is that the fuel efficiency of the Prius is lessened in short trips.

Just home to work and back for a year is 36,500.
Ok here is the way I see it. First off the more miles you drive the more you save in fuel cost. When you drive more than 15K a year you have added expense of maintenance and a loss in resale value per year. So ya must keep it for :?: :?: years just to break even. I think the easier way to go here is to think of how much cleaner the air is because of what you’re driving:!: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

 

About 25,000 for me - 5,000 commuting and the rest is leisure travel. 80% of commuting and 90% of leisure (by distance) are on motorways or high-speed dual-carriageways at 70mph or more.

It's reassuring to see lots of large numbers in this thread - it kicks against the theory that "only town/city drivers benefit from a hybrid". Yes, I know my mileage won't be much (or any) better than a new VW TDi, but that's still much better than my previous car (which only gets 40-45 mpg with my kind of driving). I don't expect the mid-60s quoted for steady low- to mid-speed driving, but I know I'll still have one of the most efficient vehicles at any speed.

The last 4 or 5 years, I've put about 3,000 miles max on the Civic each year -- I think it might have been as low as 2000 in 2002.

Most days I ride a vanpool to work (~30 miles away); the drive to the vanpool from my house is about 3-4 miles. There's an additional 12 miles three times a week, as I drive to the swimming pool and back.

Now, the car itself has about 220,000 miles on it. I bought it new in '87, and the first 8-9 years of its life were spent in the daily 60 mile commute every day -- so it racked up the mileage considerably. I joined the vanpool in the mid-90s.

When the Prius arrives, I suspect that my MPG will be on the low end; short trips apparently result in low MPG. (Don't know if 3 miles is considered a short trip, but I'll assume so.) On the other hand, I suspect I'll be looking for excuses to drive to work...

 

It's looking like about 25-27 thousand for me depending on how many road trips get thrown in. With gas prices as they are I'm much more likely to do a driving vacation than with my old car. If this keeps up I'm afraid the economy is in for a real beating.

 

Around 4-6K split between 2-3 vehicles. I have a home office, my commute is to the coffee maker. For most trips over ~200 miles I'll either fly or rent an interesting car on an unlimited mileage contract.

We dive between 25 -30 k a year combined, I'm retired but wife still works, she brings home the bacon and I eat it!

I estimate 20k per year for the next 7 years commute to work

 

I've had mine for 2 1/3 years and I'm at 64,000.

thats 27,000/year however thats b/c i only drove 22,000 in the first year.

With my new commute of 45 miles one way to work I'm up to about 35,000 a year once other trips are factored in.

My Prius ('05) averages around 22k; my wife's ('07) 10k or less. Frankly, even with as much driving as I do, I probably save more on brakes and nothaving to use premium fuel as I did with a big Lexus than I save on gas alone. Unless I am mistaken, after almost 4 years I just replaced my first non-consumable part -- at my expense. For what it is also worth, the extended warranties turned out to be bad bets.

I'm at 16 Mm in 8 months, so I'll probably be around 20 Mm after a year with this car.... that's something around 12 kmiles (what a weird unit!). I don't usually drive as much as I did this year.... I usually go about 12 Mm/year.

35,000 a year. My daily commute averages 110 miles, then trips.

Traded a 88 GMC c-2500 in the famous Cars program. Plus our state (CT) gave us no sales tax 6% gift. Our pevious car PT Cruiser averaged 20K/year . With the Prius and being both retired will bump up to 27-30K/year. Best car we have ever had bar none. Clear bra/ scanguage, Pulled the silly wheel covers and now travel 62-63mph getting 54mpg Love it.

 

20K yearly for me...thus the reason for the PRIUS!!!
