    Justin, by all means have the port used when appropriate -- but don't think that unskilled use of the port is a good idea. An infected port is not on your wish list.

    A common problem with peripheral IV use for infusions or blood draws is inadequate pressure at the venipuncture site after the needle (or catheter) is removed. Local hematomas develop that destroy the vein for future use. The nurses and phlebotomists will not take the time to apply pressure for the 3 - 5 minutes needed, so get in the habit of doing it yourself. Use the ball of your thumb and apply moderate pressure: not so much that it hurts, but enough to feel you are pushing into down into the skin. About one cm or so.

    F8L, I have not been on here much lately, but still thinking of you from Oz. Hope you can keep your spirits up, and get back on the mend soon.

    Justin's still in and out of ER, dealing with the nasty effects of chemo, but hanging in there. We have plans to get together this week. :)

    And it's not like I need the help in that department. :p

    And now for some good news...

    Justin's doing great. I caught him between bouts of chemo, so he feels fine, and seems as good as always. (Sorry, Octavia, he's still got his hair.) We did some walking in the preserves this morning, and tested the capabilities of the Prius in marginal conditions. Almost didn't make it out, but we're back in civilisation now. Or in the city, anyway. :rolleyes:

    I'm so sorry I've been absent lately. I've been going through rough times these last weeks and I have not felt like being on the computer much or doing much in general besides work.

    I'm also totally ashamed that I have not gathered the energy to respond to my friends that are sending me wonderful gifts! :( Each card I receive is like a fresh breath of air and I go about my day with renewed vigor. I love all of you so much!

    As for Hyo, well all I can say is that it is damn good to see you down here and I look forward to our sailing trip with MarinJohn tomorrow!!!! :rockon:

    p.s. I thought getting stuck on a mountain trail in the Prius today was going to be our lil secret?

    Don't you DARE feel bad for using your energy to fight this thing instead of using it to respond! The best use of ALL your energy now is in getting BETTER! Right, PC'ers?

    Now, when you're all well and all this is behind you, if you don't keep in touch on the threads we'll all be forced to come out there and help you do your job (and you REALLY don't want some of these yokels wandering around the grasslands! :D ).

    So, PUSH FORWARD toward WELLNESS! We can get by on our own for a while...or do I have to send the pep squad out again?

    :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

    that's just so cute I think I'll be sick! :pound:

    the whole point is to send the good energies to YOU- we understand that you're not feeling at your best, no need to feel guilty about it!

    All my best to you, Justin. Better to save your strength for keeping yourself strong, than to waste it at the computer. We'll look forward to seeing you on here again when you're all better.

    But we didn't get stuck - it just took a couple of tries. Like I said, 'testing the capabilities'. :D

    That look on your face when you came out of the store to find your car bouncing while parked was great. I love your stereo, dude. :rockon:
